1000w PSU incoming

Think someone in Graphics was saying how the next gen graphics cards are going to be incredibly power-hungry and the psu companies are releasing these 1000+ watt units in response to their briefing by nvidia and ati.

*Read my post*

That idea of the first 1KW PSU was that it could power 2 server machines at once :p That was when they weren't particularly powerful compared to today.

Nvidia is pushing quad sli and ATI is pushing for 3 PCIE x16 lanes for running crossfire with a 3rd physics calculating card. 1000w starts to look necessary at those levels.

As it says, "DirectX 10 GPUs to Consume up to 300W".

Assuming that 300W is the next gen 7950 GX2 then a top notch 4x4 system consisting of 2x Athlon FX-62's, 4gb of ram, 2x 8850 GX2's and a 4x 1gb drives in raid could be around by early 2007 pushing 900W

Insane... but given current trends....

You only need 380w PSU to power up a single gfx card system...... Wait till the 1100w comes out then you could power 3 PC's from it!

LOL what a complete and total waste of money!

pretty insane amount of power there but its way ahead of its time nothing could use this power except servers etc
