Hello,

Im in the search of psu for my upgraded pc(7800x3d/b650e) with the aim of upgrading to 40series card in the near future, so preferably atx3.0 for the future proofing. Guessing seasonic 1000w will be safe for couple of gpu gens?
I’ve found some conflicting posts and reviews online regarding atx3.0 on prime/gx models. Some negative comments about new vertex line specially created for intel 3.0 standard.
Could you help me with advice and clearing up confusion?

To be honest as long as your psu is at least gold rated and comes with a 10 year warranty your good . You can stretch and get a platinum rated PSU if you wish that may have slightly better components but that's a choice your wallet will dictate.

Noise should be a consideration as some PSU are far louder than others that's where you should be checking reviews.

Most brands wil have conflicting stories online .

If you get a 4090 then 1200w would be wise.

Which card do you want? 1000 is definitely not necessary for e.g. a 4070 or 4070 Ti. If you plan on a 4090 (or similar, in the future) then sure, get 1000.

Anandtech have just reviewed the updated focus here.

There are a few professional reviews of the Vertex, like this one.

I haven't seen any negative comments about the Vertex, except for the price.

I always had seasonic and even though it has failed once they’ve sent upgraded replacements, so can’t fault the service.

Im leaning towards 4080 or maybe 4070ti super if it comes with 16gb later this year.

Main reason for this topic is I don’t want to spend £170 for a psu now and in 3-4 again £200+ because it doesn’t support some features an prevents me from just dropping in new gpu.

Will focus gx be the same performance/safety wise as vertex version? Power rating aside.

850 would be alright for a 4080, 750 for a 4070 Ti.

Features is not a problem, even ATX 3.0/PCIE5 is optional and there are potential warranty issues with using native cables or adapters, instead of the 8 pin adapters the manufacturer supplies in the box with the card.

Wattage could be an issue, but I don't know if they'll be more or less power hungry in the future.

They have the same protections listed in their data sheets and the MTBF for the PSU and fan are rated exactly the same, but I can't find a part list for the GX to compare with the Vertex. The Vertex does have a 12 year warranty (recently changed), versus 10 on the new GX.

Mine arrived today and being ready for 4000 series gpu it came with 12vhpwr cable, but no 8+8 pcie like my current 650w has. Can I use 2x separate pcie cables supplied to power 3070 for the time being?

You won’t need a new PSU for the latest gen of GPUs.

The PSU standards are very slow to change and the GPU manufacturers know this so they would be idiots to make old PSUs incompatible with the new gen of GPUs.

Everyone was freaking out about the FE RTX 30 series adapter and it was fine.

I’d even go so far as to stick with the ATX 2.0 standard until the potential issues with the RTX 40 series cards has been resolved.

TLDR; As the others have said, any PSU with a good warranty will be enough for the next 10 years.
