Is it possible to tune one of these?

My mate has just picked one up for a stupidly cheap price and reckons it has tuning potential to take it to 65-70bhp.

I said all he could do was adjust the fuel pump as there is no turbo.

Hmm....deisels aren't renound (sp?) for their tuning potential, unless they're bigger capacity turbo'd variants. I'm guessing the only way you'll gain more power is by upping the fuel and air quantities through intakes, bigger injectors, free flowing exhaust system from the manifold back...the usual stuff.
I'm not sure they're any easier / better to tune than any other NASP deisel.

I told him to spend a little more and get a 1.9dt 306.

He wouldn't have it though.

I'm not sure theres much you can do to a TUD lump to be honest. XUD on the other hand would be much better to start off with.

106 1.5d's are awesome, so awesome infact I have 2! :p

I'll have one mate, £250. ;)

And yes I am being serious.

I have finally realised I am a poor student and poor students should not drive £3k saxo's......basically their savings account :D

There is virtualy nothing you can do to tune a normaly aspirated diesel apart from exteme measures such as Nitrous Oxide, or bolting on turbo. You might be able to up a fueling very slightly, but the chances are high that this will just produce lots of black smoke rather than any more power. The TUD is not a particularly robust engine anyway.

Contrary to common belief, the size of the injectors on a mechanicly injected diesel engine does not determine the quantity of fuel injected, this is purely down to the pump.

I didn't know you can run nitrous on a diesel

I've never heard of this before. Is it effective?

Of course, just as effective as on a petrol engine, but you need to be able to add extra fuel of course.

Tuning a car like the 106 1.5D goes against what it should have been bought for in the first place. The only good thing about the car is that they are massively cheap to run, if he wanted something fast he should have bought it in the first place.

Tell him to strip it down and thats the only way it'll go faster !

Magnesium Alloy Wheels not too wide or it'll loose spead. Remove all trim and carpet and seats anf fit 2 bucket seats.

Put some chav stickers on it, and it'll do like 130 with 4 up I swear !

Or tell him not to kid himself.

Should have listened to you and got a 306 td. Tell him he's a muppet.
