I remember seeing your car scratch and I always liked it. I think the 106gti is one of a very few cars that can actually suit the twin headlights, think it must be as the indicators are built into the unit isn't is? Dunno about the chrome m3's though 
Anyway that insurance quote you've got is amazing!
They're great little cars and there are a few things that can go wrong but generally speaking they're easy to sort yourself and can be done quite cheap
They're thirsty on the old petrol though.
As for a 306GTi6, well I love mine and I do appreicate the size over the 106 but if this doesn't bother you then that's fine. Running costs are higher than the 106 and petrol is EVEN worse (especially around town, I do mainly town miles and get 23mpg if I'm lucky).
I'd say go for it definately, just watch out as when they bite back mid-corner they bite back ****ing hard and you will be going backwards through a hedge
