1070 causing problems?

Hi all,

I've just had a real scary moment with me system as to where I clicked to open a browser, then all of a sudden what sounded like the 1070 fan went into overdrive spinning rapidly. The monitor then lost signal and I had to reboot.

After the reboot the windows logo would appear & then the screen would go black with a static white bar across appearing. Three reboots, exactly the same, so I then tried pressing F8 at startup and now everything is back to normal.

I'm getting worried as although the last few months have been OK, I did experience some shut downs before Christmas, but after reseating all of my components inside, have not had any issues since. Could I have a faulty 1070?

How old is the PSU? The fans spinning up like that is normally because of overheating or PSU malfunctioning although could be instability with RAM/CPU/GPU. What temperatures are you running? If you don't know download portable HWinfo64, if that looks good then start looking at Memtest86+.

Are you overclocked?

PSU is around 3 years old now I reckon. No overclocks set yet. I'll give them programmes a try.

Yeah try that as it might be something really simple, it does seem odd that it happened when no load was going through the system though.

How can I identify trends for problems? Anything in particular I need to look for? Not super tech savy & the interface on HWInfo is a bit baffling.
