Would it be worth upgrading to the 1070 from a 970?

I currently have the KFA2 Infinit8 970 GTX which I could get about £130 for, would it be worth upgrading to a 1070 for the extra £300?

Its a fairly big jump in performance - I was using a 780 more than a 970 before I moved to the 1070 but from what I recall of the 970 figures it would be averaging like 60% higher or something.

I would say a 970 is 15% faster than a 780 and a 1070 is 70% faster than a 970.

My new 1070 isnt far off being twice as fast as my old 780 anyway.

Speaking for myself, my 970 was running newest titles under a mix of med/high/ultra and FXAA avg about 50 fps with dips to low 30's but even running G-Sync you felt the varience in fps quite harsh at times.

Now it's mostly ultra and MSAA running a higher avg fps with a much improved smoother fps varience.

Yep, upgraded myself and definately worth the differnece. As others have said I've gone from a mix of high / ultra at around 40-50 fps to everything ultra at 70ish fps depending on the game.

Excellent, will have to look at upgrading.

Still need to work out how to overclock my CPU properly. Everytime I try it kills my Windows build :\.

Thanks for the replies :).

IMO I'd keep what you have and wait for Vega or even the Pascal refresh, Yes I know playing the waiting game is never a good thing but going from a 970 to an 1170 would be a maHOOsive jump in performance :)

Overclocking should not be killing your Windows installation, There must be something else funky going on.

Is there any guestimate date of when we will see the 1170?

Not sure why it destorys my OS but every time I try it (using the auto OC) it seems to corrupt my Windows installation.

It could be a very long way off and barely faster than the 1070 anyway.

Refreshes are not the same as launching a new architecture. The GTX 770 was a refresh of the GTX 680 and there is hardly any difference in performance.

If you need to upgrade grab a 1070 now and enjoy.

There is always something new around the corner.

The 1070 is new architecture and hasn't been out that long.

It's as good a time as any to buy one.

There is always something new on the horizon and unless it is being released in the next couple of months it's best to buy whats out there already.

Came to ask about this same upgrade! Currently have a 970 but i want to solidify 1440p at top settings with a solid frame rate, 970 can quite maintain this

Would obviously sell my msi 970 and then fund the rest! Birthday on wednesday and everyone keeps asking what i want lol may be a nob and suggest cash towards this :D

Today only ;)

Going to take a punt on this, pretty certain the zotac amp is the one to get?

Is it worth the extra cost over the founders cards?

Also what can i expect my msi 970 4g card to sell for?

Gigabyte G1 and Strix are the best cards afaik, Zotac/EVGA are usually close behind.

I wouldn't get a Founders edition.

I'd want a quiet and cool running card. The Amp Extreme is just that.
