1080 Strix date changed again.......

There seems to ne no where near enough inventory of these cards in general, nvidia should have push back the release a month or so to give em a bit more time to churn them out.

Main reason i'm holding onto my pre-order right now is how the price went up after I ordered, so i'm 'saving' in that sense...otherwise i'd have jumped ship

No chance not with AMD launching on 29th June with huge stock. They wouldnt want to launch after.

Pennies, if anything. Not that they are off me because I picked the Amazon Secure option which means they can't take my money until they are ready to dispatch.

But if they had, I still wouldn't complain because they're honouring my order at £40 off the price Asus belatedly realised they should be selling their gold dust cards for.

Same, I also got it for 620

Aye me too man I got mine pre ordered at £597. But I'm seriously thinking Amazon are a lot lower down the food chain.
Have a evga ftw pre ordered from ocuk as well. Gonna keep whatever arrives first.

I've asked in the customer services forum (order queries) to see what position I'm now at in the order queue.

This might be your best bet to determine whether to stick with the Strix (like I am) or switch to another model.

I checked and my place has gone from 148 to 158..... How does that even happen!? Looks like I'll get mine Christmas time lol

Be interesting to see how much headroom the strix cards have and what users think of the noise levels, a few on here have them and not heard anything back so far

OK, here's my take then - I got it last week.

I'm upgrading from an AMD 295X2 (coming soon to a well known auction site near you :p) so on games where Crossfire worked well there's little or no difference in performance.

That said, performance is truly impressive for a single GPU. Noise levels are good. You can hear the card when the fans spin up, but I have a Corsair H90 cooling my CPU and it's WAY noisier than the Strix, pretty much drowning it out altogether.

So far I have not made any real effort to manage airflow in my case for the benefit of the card, other than putting the side fan on my Coolermaster HAF X to exhaust. The card in OC mode easily exceeds the stated clocks without the fans spinning up above 60%. The lowest I have seen the clocks go was after a 30 minute Firestrike Extreme stress test when they went to 1975MHz. Most of the time when gaming it settles at just over 2GHZ but I forget the exact frequency. Think it's 2024MHz.

I have not messed around with a manual OC yet as it's more complex now, (as we all know) and I want to see what happens regarding increased voltage, alternative BIOS options etc etc. I'm not expecting to have more options in future as I'd predict Asus (and others) will take advantage of nVidia opening up overclocking options by simply introducing a higher end card, rather than giving Strix owners a new BIOS.

Overall I would say that you're going to get exactly what you expect if you've ordered one of these. Performance is excellent, but overclocking is limited the same as for any other 1080.

Anything else anyone would like to know?

P.S. For me personally, it maybe wasn't worth the upgrade from the 295X2. I did it because there were a few games where Crossfire support was lacking, but that's a discussion for another thread. I'll change my CPU when the new ones arrive in Q4.

Interesting. I am looking to upgrade from my 290x in xfire.

I had figured out that 290x in xfire prob equals a 1080. Just looking forward to keeping that same performance when games dont have xfore support.

Its awful atm the moment when you come across a game not supported and isntead of 60fps you get about 30 fps.

That is *exactly* why I switched. Doom was the final straw for me, and it runs awesomely on the 1080. If Bethesda get their finger out and sort Vulcan though, it should run very well on 290X Crossfire.
