I'm on the market for a white/silver monitor to replace my wife's old Iiyama and while options are scarce below £200, I've found a little selection of HP monitors.

I'm wondering just how bad 1080p would be at 27"? I know 24" would be better, but is it *really* as awful as people say at 27? It won't be used by someone who is likely notice a slight blurriness, one of the main issues with the Iiyama is that the colours are horribly washed out.

The options I'm look at are the HP M24FW and HP M27FW. Both are on sale right now for a decent price and reviews seem to be positive but not sure if we should take the plunge at 27" or not...

I'd post links to the HP site but it's also a store so unsure if that'd break rules.

Low resolution for size won't show as blurriness.
It shows as general roughness of everything with contrast between adjacent pixels and for example text characters become jagged.
That's of course unless monitor is moved farther away to prevent apparent/visible size from increasing.

What is the system going to be used for? If gaming it will make game at 27" pixelated compared to the 24" screen

Example here of what I am trying to mention above

It'll mostly be used for casual gaming, yes. We're looking at getting the HP M24FWA but only seems to be available for collection in Brighton - don't fancy driving there right now...

We were considering the extra £50 for the M27FWA as it's available for delivery next day, which is the same but 27", still 1080p. Our office space is quite small so my wife's desk would be about 50cm deep, so the monitor will be quite close.

Upgrading from a 22" 1080p, she likes my 29" 2560x1080 screen - would the pixel density be close to that in the 27"?

Nope, 29" ultrawide is roughly the same pixel density as 24" 16:9 1080p. Coming from a 22" which should be nice and sharp, a 27" with the same no. of pixels will be horrible (IMO at least). I previously had a 27" 1080p and sold it after 3 months for a 23" as it was just too blocky

Well it looks like the 24" HP we were going to get is now out of stock near us so will be waiting it out anyway... It seems 27 would definitely be too big for the desk too be worth buying

its fine - I have a 1080p 27" that is now relegated to home office/general monitor as ive now got a fancy 1440p monitor for gaming.

1440p is preferable but 1080 is fine for general surfing etc. I'd prefer 27 1080p iver a 24 inch screen either way if you have space as its just a much nicer size, 24" just seems woefully small to me now.

Also is desk space is small, just do what I do and put the monitor at an angle overhanging the desk a bit
The problem is the office room itself is small - it's a "3rd bedroom that's barely big enough, but we'll call it a bedroom because we can" kind of room. It's only.just big enough for both desks against the wall with us both in chairs.

I considered a wall mount so it can be moved about if needed. I think we'll go with 24 though, I think 27 would just be too big, my 29" wide can be a little on the big side if we're both in there and I have to sit quite close. When I'm by myself I can sit out a bit.
