I just watched some trailers in standard def (480p) high def (720p) and mega def (1080p)

my god thats changed my thoughts on which monitor to buy, definately want 1080p, 720p was really really nice too, but the clarity at 1080p was ridiculous.

I'm in love with high def, now I just need to buy a monitor that does the res....

Is the dell 2407wfp the best bet? i want something 24-27 inch and would like all the tv inputs too (don't care about a tuner, unless its available) £500-£550 max.

I am willing to wait a few months if something is on the horizon (pricing shift etc) but what are the alternatives to the dell?

for full HD support your going to need more then £550, try and make it £730 and you got your self a nice 24" HD monitor which fully supports HD.

BenQ FP241W 24"

ok well i could save for a few months, I have seen the dell at £566 though.

I suggest the BenQ once it has it's 1:1 Mapping firmware fix implemented. I'm planning to get it as an all-in-one solution for PC, 360, SkyHD etc...

It's got all the inputs you'll ever need :D

Really need to look at larger screens for 1080p set, 32" at the very least. Waste of time 1080p on a small screen.

Depends how close you sit. Sat 2 foot from a 24" screen (in other words how most people use a PC) it will occupy more of your view than sat 6-8 foot from a 42"+ screen.
