1080p for £490

you're much better off with a quality 720p set than a cheap 1080p capable screen.
That theory only works if you take one uber crappy LCD (I don't know any) against a really expensive one.

I think most LCD's on the market are pretty fair game, obviously some are better than others, brand takes a huge impact on the price however, I hear quite a lot of various brand LCD's use the same panels as each other.

some of you guys should probably go to the opticians - it's amazing how much of a difference wearing the right specs can make. I have a prescription of -0.25 and -0.5 which is pretty damn weak. I only really need to wear them when reading things at distance (I only noticed I needed them when I went to uni and found I was having to strain to read from the back of lecture theatres)

Anyway, I have a 20" monitor and can't tell the difference between DVD and 720p from 6ft away with no specs - but with them on, it's easy. I'd bet the same would happen with a 40" telly and 720/1080

You pays your money, you get your television.
I paid just over £1000 for my LCD television a month or so ago.
It is 1080p and I am over the moon with it.

I could have gone for 720p, I could have gone for a different make.
I could have spent half of what I did and had a good television.
However if I was going to do it then I was going to do it right.

Watching a Bluray in full 1080p is just an experience everyone should have because once you've sat there and watched it for about ten minutes you'll be wanting to go home and order your own setup.

WRONG, don't listen to him.

Never go watch a blu-ray on a well setup tv that you can't afford. You will find a way to buy said tv even if you can't afford it :D:D:D

Note, i got my first animated blu-ray the other day (ice age 2). Sat down about 5ft from the tv, and didn't move a muscle until i realised an hour had passed and i was late putting the roast potatoes on (gf wasn't happy with the roast delay)
