Is there any point at the moment, with prices so high and stock availability so low?
Was thinking of upgrading to a RTX3080 but cannot find anything at a resonable price (is the Ti really worth the extra £ ?)

Guessing I should get a decent price for my current card on FleaBay, which will soften the blow slightly.
I mainly play the Bf series of games, at 1440 x 3440

Am I better waiting to see what 2022 brings, or pay the mad prices at the moment?

Thanks

The 1080ti is a great card although 1440 x 3440 is pushing it, 60fps should be doable. I would wait for next gen as the prices may drop even just a little. If that money is burning a hole in your pocket then it's your choice lol

30 series is only worth it if you manage to get an FE card IMO. Get on Telegram for instant alerts when they are briefly on sale. You can only buy one so choose wisely. 3070 or 3080 are the best buys IMO. I got a a 3080Ti as was fed up trying to get a 3080.

Phone app. If you join the right channel, you will receive alerts pretty much instantly, when Founders Edition cards are available. You have to act within minutes though, as Nvidia don't produce many reference models.

RTX 3080 FEs are probably the hardest to get, due to high demand.

If you can afford a RTX 3080 FE (£650) I'd say it's worth it, that card will easily handle 1440 x 3440, as it handles 4K resolution very well.

Or you can stick with the GTX 1080 TI and just play at 1080p, should handle that alright. In my opinion, cards that can handle above 1080p resolution are too expensive, and AMD's reference models are apparently almost non existent.

Maybe wait to see what Intel brings to the table, with their upcoming 6nm GPUs?

Over the last year or so I went from a 1080 Ti to 6800 to 3070 Ti (to play with RTX) then ultimately bought a 3080. From that experience I'd get a 6800 because of the extra RAM or 3070 but the VRAM limit will bite at some point. Skip the 3070 Ti because they tend to run hotter and draw more power for not much more gain.

For me the RTX 3080 is a big improvement on the 1080 TI. It runs cool and quiet because it's not as stressed as the 3070 Ti.

One big caveat though is I had to buy an Intel 12700K processor + motherboard because my previous 3900X even with an OC was not able to keep up with the 3080. The 3080 was only 10% faster than the 3070 Ti until I upgraded so your 3700X should be fine with anything below a 3080.

Some Nerdy stats
Valley 1.0 (No OC on hardware)

1080 Ti (3900X) FPS: 144.9 Score: 6065
3070 Ti (3900X) FPS: 176.6 Score: 7389
6800 __(3900X) FPS: 177.5 Score: 7427
3080 __(3900X) FPS: 182.2 Score: 7624
3080 _(12700X) FPS: 209.0 Score: 8746

In fact I liked my old 1080 Ti so much I took it back in part exchange for the 3070 Ti :)

I have been gaming at 1440x3440 for quite some time already - previously playing Battlefield V & COD, now onto Battlefield 2042.
Depending on the map I am getting between 60-110fps, which isnt bad by any means - I would like to hit the top end of that range more consistently.
I do intend to upgrade my CPU at some point as well....or I could not tell the wife, do it at the same time and tell her our bank account has been hacked lol

Not just a phone app, there's a desktop client as well if OP prefers that.

There's also Discord with PartAlert and Stock Informer UK, I used those to grab my 3070 FE.

As for upgrading from a 1080 Ti, I had one and moved to a 3070, and in terms of gaming performance at 2560x1440, it was a side grade (I don't game much any more and wanted to "downgrade" for a while). I would say go for a 3080 or 6800XT if you can as a minimum. But really with current prices I don't think it's worth it... If you can, wait for the next gen and hope prices will be more sensible, either by better pricing on the next gen, or next gen causing current gen prices to drop. Could also sell the 1080 Ti for some money back since second hand prices for it is also stupidly high.

I went from a 2080, which is similar in performance other than ray tracing to your card, to a 3080 and it certainly crunches through games a decent bit better than the 2080. I'd be going for one of those or a 6800xt as a minimum.

at this point only FE at MSRP is worth it wouldnt bother with AIB with the current prices and this late into the 30 series my prefered alert was using telegram app on phone setting different ringtone to that so I know its that you can also install it on PC and join group called part alert FE telegram, google search that will be first one search result

FE PartAlert is the channel you want and you need to be quick for the 3080 FE but it`s worth it, it took me six months to get one. Your 1080 ti will go a long way to paying for the 3080 FE but at least you can max out your monitor refresh rates and it will be quieter too.

Are you benching at 1080p here?

Yeah, I get 179.5 fps (7512) with my 3080 and a 3700X at 1080p which tallies with his results

Unless you are struggling (games wise), then I'd wait for the next gen (that's what I intend to do). Even more so as you appear to have a G-sync monitor (again like me). No guarantee that prices will be any better! But at least the "uplift" from your old card will be that much better. Good luck what ever you decide to do.
