What are your predictions for 1080ti vs GTX 2080?

I'm very much so deliberating whether to try and grab someone's "old" 1080ti rig or make my own 2080 rig?

On one hand, the 2080 should probably be a bit faster and has RTX for the odd games it can support.

On the otherhand, I fear that its RTX power will not be good enough to smash the 60fps barrier given the 2080ti seems to be the only card they demo.

The 11GB RAM on the 1080TI actually makes me feel like it might be a bit more "future proof".

Any thoughts?

I made this choice and bought the RTX 2080/over the GTX 1080ti ... I'm guessing it will trade blows , and unless your at 4k the GPU grunt will run out before VRAM is an issue .at least at my res . I was swayed by the fact its a new architecture plain and simple . progress is progress albeit different and expensive .

Been contemplating similar things myself, but I think the 2080 is still steep even if you think of it as a Ti and the Ti as a titan.

We won't know for sure until benchmarks come out, but it looks like the 2080 is probably a few percent faster than the 1080Ti in old terms (ie, negligible) but even if you ignore RTX features, DLSS could be a good gain in games that will use it. On top of that you have a newer gen card that will probably be worth more in a couple of years and will have the longest and latest driver support. Also has the new VirtualLink connection which might be useful next year if you are interested in the next gen headsets.

If you want to buy now and are choosing between a new 1080Ti or waiting a few weeks for the 2080 at broadly similar prices I think the 2080 is the best option. I think used 1080Ti's are commanding too high a price at the moment personally, being buoyed up by the still high retail prices. When the new cards are actually out I hope that second hand they hit the £350-400 mark and at half the price of the 2080 that would sway me towards the used 1080Ti.

Basically I'm currently planning to sit on my hands, let the new cards actually reach retailers and see what happens.

EDIT - accidentally called VirtualLink "VR Link" which is someone's VR wireless thingy and not the connector I was referring to.

2080 unless you can get the old Ti for low price.
The 2080 is simply going to be a better GPU on balance. Even resale and the amount of further development the product will get.

The issue I have is... I want to game at 4k. I'm buying a £500-600+ card to game at 4k.
At 1440p, I'd probably have grabbed a 2070 whenever it drops.

How does the VR link connection work? I'm DEFINITELY interested in anything VR related!

The VirtualLink (I used the wrong name above! sorry) is the new standard that oculus, nvidia, amd, Valve etc all signed up to... basically gives a higher bandwidth single connector for next gen headsets. (replaces HDMI, USB, Power etc with one small usb-c type connector on the back of the card).

IF Nvidia is to be believed and they haven't just cranked down the graphics settings, looks like the 2080 is a perfectly capable performer at 4k...plenty of new titles they listed able to hold above 60FPS average at 4k with HDR.

If the 2080 is not a significant faster than the 1080ti it follows that the calling the 2080ti the new titian to be untrue.

True enough, more speaking of pricing brackets than performance. The Ti has definitely taken on Titan-like pricing, and the 2080 has moved into Ti range.

Had they released the Ti as a Titan and the 2080 at 100 bucks less there probably wouldn't have been as much backlash for them

I just had a good look at all the 2080's and I think the new designs look awful, Even EVGA's looks like it's made out of a sheet of low quality clear plastic and the Zotac's which I usually like has this tacky ZotacGaming sign that lights up. How is that the price goes sky high while the quality goes down low?
Anyone buying a non reference 2080 will be paying through the nose for what is a horrible looking card most of the time, The best looking ones are the Asus Dual, Strix and MSI's Duke isn't too bad, Only God know's what all the others have been smoking.

I picked up an Aorus 1080TI for £550 and sold my 1080G1 for £350 after deciding not to go for the 2080. I game in 1440p so the TI is more than enough

I personally think the Ti will have the edge especially in 4k with the extra Vram.

personally I'd pick up a 1080 Ti for £500 used and the £250-£300 saved put towards a nice holiday or something ^_^

I have 2 options

£800
AMD 1700 3.9ghz w/X41 CPU water cooler
1080ti windforce gigabyte
32GGB g skill 3200mhz ram
600w PSU
Giga AB350 gaming 3 moterboard

OR

RTX 2080 £600 (after VAT)

with my:
4670k
8GB RAM

Thoughts please?

Not sure if a AMD 1700 cuts it for VR or not...

Have to agree first place I looks was the EVGA cards and was very dissapointed with the plastic.

I would predict the 2080 being double digit % faster than the 1080Ti (even if that is only around 10%), and it's going to be a more justifiable purchase if you game at a higher res. At 4K, it's going to be the sweet spot card I think. But it's not like a 1080Ti doesn't already do a decent job there. I'm most intrigued by DLSS personally, and that could really set it apart moving forwards. Ray tracing I'm less convinced by, especially at 4K, but we shall see.

I think the 2080 will trade blows with the 1080ti making it a poor prospect when it comes to price/performance. The RTX features are nice but i don't think they will be implemented in enough games to make the purchase worthwhile for another year at least.
