1090T or i5 2500k?

What do you primarily use your computer for - do you use any programs that utilise 6 cores?

If it's for general apps use and gaming then the 2500K is the chip to go for.

Can your mobo take the 1090t?

I ended up deciding on just going for the 1090/1100 because it's a much cheaper option in my situation. It also means I don't have to buy windows 7 again >.< STUPID OEM :(

If money isn't a problem go for the i5 but if you're after a cheap and cheerful upgrade then the X6 is a good buy.

Phase 1: change mobo
Phase 2: phone MS automated activation hotline
Phase 3: get new activation code
Phase 4: ???
Phase 5: Profit.

Yes, as long as you have an original component from the previous computer you can use the OEM version. For example computer shops used to sell OEM WinXP with a mouse.

Meaning I can use my OEM windows on another motherboard? :O

It's a grey area, lots of people will tell you that you aren't properly licensed because you broke the stupid EULA, but Microsoft won't stop you from re-activating on different hardware so if it was so very wrong why wouldn't they stop you? the only thing they really care about is that you don't try to use a single license on multiple computers at once.

It's just a ruse to sell the more expensive retail copies in my experience.

If your board will take a 1090 then go for that as it will save you about £100 you'd have to spend on a new motherboard and is a very good processor. Otherwise get the 2500k as it will be faster although for most tasks you'd probably not notice the difference between the two. Although the 2500k will probably clock higher than the AMD chip will.

Upgrading to AMD Hex core is only worth it if your motherboard is not some low-end budget motherboard with dated chipset. If your motherboard is unfortunately one of those, then I'd just take just chance and ditch it as well and grab a new decent 1155 motherboard together with the 2500K.

How many upgrades does win 7 let you do on oem as i have built 2 machines with it now and end up canabalising them to make a new one

Andy, your board only supports 95w cpus so the 1090T's not going to work.
The 95w 1055Twill work in your board, but I would go for thePhenom II X4 Quad Core 850 "95W Edition" if it's for games as it's about £40 cheaper.
