With a budget of 10K what daily driver would you pick based on the following criteria.

Decent performace/handling
35+MPG
Not dull
3 door
Less than 5 years old
Well spec'd

Just weighing up the pro/cons of owning a car rather than having a company car.

Golf GTi? Though 35mpg is a stretch. I don't understand 3 doors at all. They only seem to make getting in the back an absolute pain in the arse, with absolutely no tangible benefits, except they're a bit cheaper.

Audi A3 of some description, but I couldnt see myself ever buying a 3 door car. 2 or 4 door please.

3 door hatch as the saying goes. However saying that I've always liked the 3 series.

I don't have a family or dog so have no need for anymore doors.

Just fancied something different as I've had a 5 door Mondeo for 3 years.

Right but when I fancy something different, it still needs to be good. I don't go from eating ice cream to poo, just cause it's different :p.

Not having a family or dog doesn't matter really, you'll still inevitably need to put things on the back seats at some point.

So no 3 door hatches are good?

In the whole time I've had the Mondeo I've not used the back doors enough to worry about having a car without them. I stick my bag in the boot or on the passanger seat if I'm in a rush.

I have always had three door cars, when I need to put something on the back seat I slide the seat forward. Handy little feature that.

So are doors though.

It's obviously not that important to the OP though is it? It's like trying to get him to buy an estate because he can fit large bulky items in it, but if he isn't loading it up with large bulky items its pointless. Same goes for the amount of doors, if all you need to do is cart your backside backwards and forwards to work and you have no family/pets to worry about what's the need in buying a 5 door car?

The 3 door A3 looks so much better than the 5 door A3, the same goes for a lot of cars.
