Hi all I need a new PCi-E graphics card for my new setup mobo DFi NF4 Infinity & AMD 3800+ venice, I have about £110 to spend and I am looking at second hand gear, I have been looking at the X1950's & 7900's the is a 7900GTX going for around £70 but I am not sure which is best to choose from the wide array of cards on the market ?

Still out of his price range as it's over his entire budget for a graphics card and PSU.

@ wiggyuk you can get a new 512mb 1950pro for under £80, it's a very capable card and at its price point can't really be beaten.

If £110 is your budget then an X1950pro 256mb and a Corsair VX 450w is about as good as you will do brand new. :)

//edit if you can stretch the budget slightly then the 512mb model would be better as Raikiri suggests.

I am currently looking at second hand not brand new

Well if you stretched your budget ever so slightly you could get a brand new x1950 pro 512mb and a PSU. With the little extra spent you get warranty. Peace of mind for a few quid extra?, or do you want to contact that person on the bay or wherever you get the card and hope you get a refund or a replacement if something should go wrong.

fail

shown to be an equal for the 1950 series and not much more in terms of performance.

Shut the hell up and try read the whole thread before making a comment like that as I already stated for the X1950pro 512mb before you even posted. Also I only posted the link to the 2900GT as Wiggy didn't know it was released.

"Fail" get a life. On that point though if anyone failed it would be you for not reading the whole thread and see me offer the x1950pro as an option. In future please read the whole thread before making yourself look silly with an absolutely pointless post.

Lol, good reply, plus the 2900Gt would still be better than a 1950Pro anyway, it still has DX10, U.S.Architecture newer driver support.

[michael winner mode on] calm down dear [/michael winner mode off]

I failed for pointing out the 2900GT was beyond his reach? you merely posted a link to it indicating it would be an item of interest and relevance to his requirments. I failed you on this and it stands

sadly I now have to increase it to a 2 X fail for now geting all shouty and throwing a hissy fit. "in future please read the whole thread before making yourself look silly" mmmmm would accept it as a fair point if you'd bothered to read this "£110 to spend on Graphics card & PSU" before offering a link to a single item above and beyond his budget for both items. hence double fail qualify.

Back on topic.

to the OP, what res do you game at and what games are you playing ?

from the ultimate budget bucket you could pick up a decent psu on MM for £40-60 incl del and perhaps a 7800GTX-X1800XL/XT for £45-50. if you're only gaming at 1280 these should suffice. any higher and I'd suggest saving a little more and stepping up to a pre owned 8800GTS or even a 2900 Pro / XT. I picked up a 7800GT for £35 incl del lately and it's cracking I run a 22" screen but predominately run older games UT2004 etc. I'm more than happy with this and until I see 8800 GT's in stock on a regular basis and price stability it's what I'm sticking with.

To be honest in the past I have not really used my PC for that many games, but I have just brought a new board and cpu an I want to play some of the newer games like COD 4, Bioshock Crysis when its out hoping to have a 8800GT by then though.

I have been offered a few cards.

What is better a Leadtek 7800GTX 256Mb for £50 or a Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB for £70 ??

I only have a 17" at the moment so dont play games with res too high.
