Hi all,

Trying to put a few games on my SSD & noticed this folder is taking up a huge chunk!

Also pagefile.sys is 6gb+ - shirley that can't be right?

The system needs everything in the winsxs folder. If you have at least 4 GB RAM you can reduce the page file to Min 512 MB and Max 1024 MB. That will save you 5 GB. Also you can reduce the System Restore space to 1 GB. Vista uses 15% drive space as a default for System Restore, W7 uses about 5%. You can save lots of GBs there.

I've had this Windows 7 installation for over a year now and my "winsxs" folder is 7.5GB.

Don't think there is anything you can do with your winsxs folder, without risking wrecking your windows installation anyway.

There is nothing you can do other than format and reinstall. The WINSXS folder always grows over time and mine was also around 8GB after a year.

Disable hibernate and you will get ~4gb back, nothing adverse unless you want to hibernate obviously :p

Type cmd into the start search bar and open it as admin, then type <powercfg -h on> (without the <>) and wahey.
