11yr passport ?

Has anyone any idea why my missus would have been issued an 11yr passport ?

Issued May 2004

Expires Feb 2015

I always thought passports were 10 yrs. Unless I'm missing something.

If a new passport was applied for prior to the expiry of the old one then the additional months can be added on, up to 9 months so in this case it was at the upper limit of time that could be added on but aside from this circumstance passports are for 10 years. HMPO website.

she renewed before the old one ran out, the renewal date on the new passport will be 10 years after the expiry date on the old one, not the renewal date of the new one.
