12 days and counting for an x-ray?!

I've got a very sore and swollen foot so went to see my GP the Thursday before last. After a 4 hour wait to see the doctor (!!), I got my referral to go and get it x-rayed first thing the next day. I was told my results would be back in around 5 working days, but still nothing. Is this pretty standard for the NHS? A bit worrying imo.

You need to contact your doctor...also they might be doing experiments on you :S

you're been fobbed off, maybe for a specialist to have a look when he/she gets round to it or till they can pass it round to someone who actually has a clue to what the matter is, on a breakage you get to find out the results there and then.

doctors are merely human that spew out the same information they are fed.... how many do you know that do the tests themselves to get to the answers rather than just reciting what they themselves have been told???

I'd be hopping mad! At least you've got a good leg to stand on if you want to take it further.

5 days for results seems about right, pretty poor service really.

NHS should really be prioritised by how much tax you pay, those free loading scum bags then would be left at the bottom to rot.

That was mine after a hockey match on a Sat. Went to minor injuries on Monday. They X-rayed anc checked it there and then and said it was not broken, so crack on with some tubigrip untill the next wednesday, when the specialist would see me again.

Turned out to be a partial ligament tear. Was walking 100% after 1 week, and back into light training after 2 (although the doc might have said i should rest it for a few weeks)

So, basically, go to see a Minor Injuries clinic, much quicker, and they have the machines/staff on site to do things straight away.

My Mum went for an x-ray recently (after being referred from her doctor), and they said it would take a similar time to get the results so to ring back the doctors surgery in 5-7 days.

So she rang back 5 days later and got the results, however it turns out they had got the results the next day! Apparently the doctors surgery can't ring the patient in order to save costs

You can't win can you.

I have, I called them on Friday and the Receptionist said "Oh yes, we have your results, I'll get the nurse to call you back."

2 hours later, the nurse calls.

"Hello, this is the nurse, how can I help?"
"I would like my x-ray results please."
"Oh, we haven't got them yet."

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I tried again today and they said to try tomorrow or Thursday! I'm fairly sure I've stress fractured a metatarsal and the only thing I've been offered so far is ibuprofen.

Oh well, life goes on.

The last two x-rays I had got lost, referral from doctor like yourself. NHS standard.

Seriously, don't bother with GP for this sort of injury. Go to the nearest minor injuries clinic! In and out usually in 30 minutes, no messing

Plus, you don't have to hang about loads of coldy/fluey people and get ill!

A&E would have xrayed you and told you what was wrong immediately, last time i went to a&e the doctor was looking at my xray on the computer 2 mins after it was done

This. When I had broken my leg it was instant. I thought it was only badly strained as I had never broken a bone before and tried to pick myself up off the floor with the broken leg = not good.

Because it's sore but not so bad that I would want to take resources away from people with genuine emergencies. In hindsight, I wish I had gone.

You can still drop into a minor injuries clinic, they wont mind, its not an A+E type injury really.
