I have just received my asus lap top back from asus after it had been repaired and they installed a new 120gb h/d,i wiped it as they had put a load of asus rubbish back onto it and i am left with just over 111gb is this right or should i have more left over.The 111gb is what vista is telling me on the set up screen before i install the operating system.

Yeah that is correct. You do not get the full 120 gb.
To be pedantic you do get the full 120 gigabytes - 120 x 10^9 bytes. Windows counts in Gibabytes (1024^3 bytes) but uses GB as an acronym rather than the correct GiB notation
