Hi guys,

With all the offers currently going on what with it being a black Friday I figured I could buy a new SSD to upgrade my existing one. I only want 120GB of space as it will be used for my OS and utility programs. My issue is I'm not sure what exactly I should be looking at. I can see there are a couple on the store for around £50 which is great but I don't know how to work out which is better. Any advice?

Thanks!

Iops is a number, higher the better. 85000 is ok.
Read speed, higher the better over 550 is high end on sata 3 bus.

Write speed depends if you need it but tends to be a lot lower than read.
Controller makes a difference but thats more research, go for ones with decent controllers.

You can pick up 250gb for 50quid...
Don't keep critical stuff on an ssd, ghost the drive and treat it like "disposable"

Thanks for the response.

Regarding 'ghosting'. What exactly is that?

Im currently using my 120GB SSD for my OS and utilities as I have done for about 4-5 years now, my plan is to change it for a newer SSD of the same size to ensure reliability of my machine. The then older SSD will be used for my music files or maybe large games that aren't used via steam. Thinking it might help some games like GTA 5 and such with their awful loading times.

'Ghosting' is like taking an image (refers to a product called Norton Ghost), I wouldn't bother getting another 120Gb, get either a 250Gb or 500Gb as they seem to fill quite quickly nowdays with all the patches etc.

If you are going for a new one then the common feel around these forums is the Samsung drives is the one to go for but I have 4 different makes of drives in different machines and not 1 has let me down yet.

Me 2. I've had corsair , adata , Samsung.
Just don't get a complete unknown brand and you should be fine, failure can happen no mAtter who made it.
