120GB SSD Choice

Damn I've been reading the ins and outs of various models off SSD for a few hours now and I still cant make my mind up.

I was originally set on a Vertex 2E drive, but then I read about the 25nm performing a lot slower than the old 34nm drives.

The drive will be going into a Acer 3820t with a SATA2 controller.

Im half tempted to buy the vertex3, or other SATA3 drive, just to make sure I saturate the SATA interface, but if someone could recommend a good SATA2 drive that would be great.

Sata 3 but it will work on sata 2.

Hey im wanting to get a 120gb ssd aswell, i heard a while back that those drives were having problems and corsair recalled those series of ssd's, have they fixed the problem then with this new batch? because I would be tempted by this or the Corsair force GT 120 gb one

ahh nice review, im not sure either :/ will probs get the GT though, comes with a 3 year warranty and the 2.5" to 3.5" bracket aswell, no idea if the force 3 does awell tho

If I'm reading this review correctly the report says that the GT will get 500mb/s ish, but according to OCUK its the non-GT that will get 500mb

The GT is better with non-compressible data mate, although whether you would notice that in everyday use is debatable.

In the end I went for the Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB

I decided not to go for a sandforce controller because they don't seem to be quite as reliable.

Here's a review of the M4 which I found useful as it also shows performance when connected to a sata2 controller as found on my laptop.

Just as a follow up, I'm very pleased with this drive.

Intallation was a breeze and it can with the latest firmware pre installed.

Getting 220meg/s sequential reads over SATA 2, even with compressed data.

No it isn't, Corcair is pricing these drives VERY competitively, OCUK is not passing this onto consumers with this drive. Shop around and find it for £15 less... everywhere..
