120mm PWM Fan for Intel 4Pin CPU Fan Header

Just nicely built the rig in siggy. I'm an intel newbie moving from amd 939. The thing that caught me out is the 4 pin intel cpu fan header, which i belive is for PWM fans. I'm using a Thermalright ultra 120. Reading the Intel 4 pin header the fan just works at full speed, which i don't want. I'd like the fan to be controlled by the mobo with the Q-fan feature which is now running my other case fans. I could bypass this by putting the fan on a 3 pin header, but would prefer to do the job properly but have no idea where to source a decent 120mm PWM fan in the uk. I'm suprised given intels current position that there aren't more pwm fans available.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated, ideally want a high pressur high vfm cappablr fan to run best on the Thermalright.

thanks:)

Hi supershanks,

I was just about to make a similar post! Also thinking of buying a Thermalright Ultra 120 but just last night I though "Hang on! where am I going to get a 4-pin 120mm fan?".

Thanks for the info on the Artic cooling fan will keep an eye open for that.

Think one of the big zalman's has a 4 pin connecter,. Was torn between the Ultra & the Noctua NH-U12F. The Ultra is good but the finishing isn't as good as the xp-90c or xp-120, which i've used in the past:-
1) rubber strips for fan - on mine these were short. the Noctua has capability of running with 2 fans push - pull if u want. The wires & rubbers must be the cheapest part of the Ultra kit, would have been nice to have the mountings 4 a second fan.
2) I would have preferred that the top clamp bolted to the side of the haetsink, i don't like the way the heatsink moves under the clamp.

had i known i would end up with the clean cpu area of the commando i would have got the Noctua, it was mainly fitting incompatability that put me off.

thanks:)

There are in effect 3 parts to the ultrra the x base that fits under the mobo, trhe main heatsink & fins, & the top clamp which fits over the heatrsink & aliigns with the screw holes on the x base. See Thermalright Ultra 120 There is room for short studs to fit horizontally through the top clamp & into the side of heatsink (see pic 2 page 2) this would make fitting easier imo.
