Anyone got any idea what might be going on here?

Today i received my c300 128gb SSD, and a startech pcie sata 3 card. I fitted the card in one of the faster pcie slots, and could see it was showing the connection to the drive at 5gbps (about as far as it will ever show from what i understand) and i could also see the drive in the bios for the card as having firmware 2, and 6gbps speed.

So all is well, until i boot in to windows 7.

For about 2 hours, i try everything i can to basically just format the drive and give it a drive letter.. windows kept saying it needed to format it - so if i would quick or normal format the thing would hang.

Also, windows 7 kept moaning about the drivers for the card not being found (although the box suggested no drivers needed). I let it scan the CD and it found a marvel driver and seemed happy.

After several failed formats, and lots of reboots somehow it did start showing up as a H drive on-line, ntfs et
c. Bit if i tried to write anything to it, i more or less got instant hangs.

I then put the drive in one of my normal onboard sata 2 ports and was instantly able to format it and create a new empty folder. So i presumed the startech card was at fault.

I went to have another look at the card bios, and couldn't really change or modify any settings on the card. I noticed on the card bios it said it was running in ahcpi mode, but there was no-way to change this to standard IDE from what i could see.

at that stage, i gave up and just left the SSD in my sata2 ports, just so i could have a play with it while i decided what to do.

When i got back in to windows 7, the drive was hanging and very slow to access again. After another reboot, its seemed to have sorted itself out now and it feels like its working ok. I COPIED my wow folder to it, and it took about 4 minutes to copy 18GB.. and then when i went in to game dalaran loaded instantly (very intensive place in game for those who dont play it).

So i think the SSD's working, but lots of oddness.

My MB is an asus rampage 2 extreme, all latest drivers that i know of and widows 7 fully up to date etc. I havent tried firmware updating the drive, because from a quick look it seems the c300's latest firmware is 2 anyway. Also havent tried installing an OS on to the SSD yet.. although i did boot from vista CD (closest i had to hand) when the drive was on the startech - and it just hung for 10 minutes until i aborted.

Any ideas?

EDIT:

Just ran hdtune and got an average read of 230mb - so that sure looks to be working now on the sata 2 ports. Not sure whats going on through the startech then..

Try pulling out and reinserting the startech (PC off first obviously). It may not be inserted properly and need reseating.

Either this or send back to where you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

EDIT: Bah beaten to it. Same thing though! :D
