I've been pouring over reviews for a new tv and I've had my mind set on a LG B8 65inch for £2300. However, with a viewing distance of over 12ft I've seen articles saying 4k is pointless as you won't be able to tell the difference. I would have to go to 85inch and over. I'm not going any higher than 65inch on an OLED as the price increase is ridiculous.
Does anyone have recommendations? I've spied a Samsung UE82NU8000 (82inch) for £2800 but I can't find reviews and cannot even see what panel type it is.

I will mainly sit in front of the tv but i do move positions and there is a second sofa that is perpendicular to the first so I was worried about VA panels.. How bad are they really when off angle?
This will be for Netflix, movies, and gaming via PC.
Current tv is a 42inch Bravia IPS panel and the blacks are awful on it with lots of bleed so I imagine most things would be an improvement.

I haven't gamed at 4k before so maybe it would be a blessing if I got the 65inch and kept it in 1080p mode where I could game at 120hz with all settings maxed out?

Fwiw I sit around 15 foot away and think a 60 is too small. For TV watching it's fine, but games can be tricky, mainly for type ones. Next time I'll be going for a 75 (even if the with thinks it's too big lol).

With the better UHD 4K sets it's not all about resolution. In fact, I would argue that the resolution change is actually a minor point.

The biggest advantages come with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and the Wide Colour Gamut that goes with it. You'll notice these far more than the resolution, even at the optimum viewing distance.

What tv do you have now and what res do you play at?

I was excited about getting an OLED for the picture quality and the HDR which I have never seen. This Samsung apparently has mediocre HDR and is a VA panel so pic quality isn't as good.

I've got a 60ju6800. It's a few years old now, but at the time 60 was the biggest size that would fit (have since 'corrected'that issue:D). I game at 4k on a pro, and I'm looking to get a one x as well. I only have normal sky HD not q but that's due to the massive backlog of stuff on my sky box. I've got a 4k Netflix sub as well and some of the stuff on there is fantastic. HDR looks pretty good even though it's not a 10 bit screen. I will point out that 60 is quite a rare size and at the time I think this was maybe the second to top model in that size. I can tell the difference between HD and 4k at that distance, although it's not massive and believe it or not even sd doesn't look to bad as the TV scaler seems to be pretty good. This is a VA, and off axis at 45 degrees where one of the sosofas sits it's not too bad.

I'll try, however I think it might be a case of having to exit the game completely iirc. I could get my aamp to downscale to HD, play it a bit the upscale to 4k and see if it's different. Getting the Mrs to playplayight be better as well as an impartial person (might not tell her and see if she notices). I'm not sure how the 4k works on the pro if it's not a game that's been patched.

I saw on another forum someone wrote 10 inches per foot...for viewing distance

So you will need a 150" TV if that true :D

Does your wife have a credit card ;):D;)
