Hey guys,

So I need one of these quite urgently. What I am unsure of though is whether or not it will power a sat nav and a laptop car charger at the same time?

I realise that this should be the point of it. But as the power output will be split between the two sockets I am not sure what will happen!

Any help will be appreciated,

Thanks :)

You need to look at the power draw of both devices; it should be listed on the power adapters for each.

You cigarette fuse rating should be around 10Amps iirc.

But the short and sweet answer is: It should be fine provided you don't plug in a huge inverter.

Thanks again for the response. The specification for the twin socket says this:
  • Maximum current (12V sockets): 6.5A per socket or 6.5A combined across both sockets
  • Maximum current (USB sockets): 1A per USB socket or 1A combined current across both USB sockets
  • Total maximum current across 12V and USB sockets combined: 6.5A

Does that mean the sat nav and laptop cannot draw more than 6.5A from the two sockets? And less than that if I have a USB device connected as well?

Thanks :)

Rating for laptop charger:

  • INPUT DC 11-15V
  • VOLTS DC 19.5V
  • AMPS 3.34A/4.62A
  • WATTS 90W

Rating on Sat Nav power cable:

  • FUSE 2A/250V
  • INPUT 10-30V
  • OUTPUT 5V /2A
Does any of that help?

Seems like the multi adapter is rated for a total of 6.5amp draw, you need to plug in 4.62amp and 2amp, which is a total of 6.62amp. You should be fine since the power supply for each won't be drawing full power all the time.

There this one:

2 x 12v Sockets suitable for powering products up to 8amp
1amp USB Charging Socket suitable for charging smart phones and mp3 devices, including iPhone and iPod
Battery Analyser displays available vehicle battery power. Also early warning for alternator not charging vehicle battery
Glowing socket - for quick night time location
Coiled Cable - no loose trailing wires across your car
Fitment Collar - to suit most cigarette lighter sockets and prevents plug becoming accidentally dislodged

Is that better?

Thanks

WAIT !

I've just noticed something. On mine there are 4 sockets...

3 @ 12V 1A which is good for small devices

1 @ full = good for laptops etc..... Interesting.... You learn something new everyday

That looks pretty good, I keep changing now. I need to order the laptop charger and the twin socket as soon as possible.

I have found this one as well:

Product Features

Twin 12v sockets
Twin USB charging socket for MP3 players and mobile phones
Battery analyser displays available vehicle power
LED glow for quick night time location
Can shaped to fit in cup holder

10amp
USB Socket
Triple Multisocket
3 Guide light Rings
Colied Cable

Haha,

Well I am thinking of going with either one that provides 8amp between two or one that provides 10amp between two. I will have no problem running the laptop and the sat nav then will I?

Cheers :)

You will be fine, max ampage draw is 6.62 for your setup :)

Ref changing the fuse, i wouldn't the fuse is not only to protect your products but also the cars wiring, put in a higher rated one and you risk causing an electrical fire.
