13.3" Laptops

I have just bought a XPS 13 which is on route. I let you know if they are any good. I have had lots of Dell laptops.

With regard to heat the worst laptop I ever owned for heat was the previous gen MacBook Pro. That was nasty on your legs.

My friend likes his XPS 13 but the Cpu temps are around 50C at idle and Gpu at 65C and get very hot when gaming or even watching a movie. I offered help remove the heatsink pads and apply some Arctic silver which should lower the temps but he's worried it may void the warranty so instead he brought a laptop cooler thing which lowered the temps to by 6C. overall a nice laptop but poorly designed in terms of cooling.

Just bagged myself an XPS 13 from the outlet using the £100 off voucher.

P8600, 4GB Ram, 320Gb HD, 9500M, WLED screen all for £600

Can post photos when it gets here if you want, may not be for another week or so though.

Ditto.

Recieved mine on Tuesday.

Very, very good machine.

Pros
Very Lightweight
Great illuminated keyboard
Solid
Fast
The LED screen is the best I have used.
Starting to feel like a Apple.
Wife loves it!

Cons
Get warm on the base but not any worse than a MacBook Pro
Wireless drivers need updating
Finger print magnet

Can't really fault it. Very powerful for such a small package.

Did you get it off the outlet too? How long did they take to deliver it? The heat thing worried me a bit, read some reports that it gets a bit hot.

Yes mate. I buy all my laptops from there. Always look brand new and unused.

It took 1 week.

It does get warm but thats because it uses metal like the MacBook Pro. Its a powerful bit of kit in a small package.

Awesome. Yeah I've got an estimate of Monday 20th, which I'm guessing is about right considering it's Easter. Can't wait to get it now! It's replacing a HP dv2000 that HP refuse to fix.

Thanks for your thoughts Andrew, i'l be looking forward to knowing what you think about it after some real world abuse too if you dont mind! My initial need to purchase a laptop has temporarily subsided so I can put a little more time into some research/seeing if anything else comparable comes out.

I doubt it will get any abuse. I use laptops to develop software and I move all my old ones on to other people. Old meaning 6 months. I swapped this one for a XPS 1710 (2Ghz). The XPS 13 will only be used for surfing and testing software. Certainly won't be a main development machine because of the screen size. If your looking for a 13" machine you can't beat it for the money. Assuming you get a deal on the Outlet. Its got some nice features which I hope will be moved over to the rest of the range. The screen is awesome.

Sorry to slightly hijack this thread but I've just seen my service tag is listed on my receipt. Looked it up on the Dell website to confirm the spec and it says it has the Dutch version of Vista on it?? there was nothing on the outlet page to suggest it had the Dutch version on it.

Surely they'll reformat and include an English version?

Don't worry it will be fine mate.

Thats probbaly where it was purchased before being returned to stock. Most are just cancelled orders.

Sorry about the double post but I received the laptop today, it's a beautiful bit of kit!

Only problem is, it ships with Vista 32bit - a bit stupid when the laptop comes with 4GB of ram. Can I just download a copy of Vista 64bit and use my 32bit key to install it? (As I understand the keys are interchangeable).

Thanks

Thats interesting mine came with 64 bit installed.

Yes the key is valid for 32/64.

I've sent off an email requesting the 64bit DVD. Hopefully they can get one sent out to me, don't see why they can't.

If not, as I mentioned earlier, will the Dell key work on a regular (ie non-Dell) version of Vista?
