Basically i have a budget of £1300 to spend on a TV.Would like it to be wall mountable as that is where i intend to put it.Will not be connected to a PC just my Meridian kit going into it.

Whats the best options for me at present?

Samsung PS42E7HD 42" Plasma TV

Around £1100

What Meridian kit you hooking to it ?

If £1300 is top end of budget its LCD only, the best plama's start at £1600 for a 42"

Im not an LCD man but the new R7 Samsung is very good for an LCD (seen the 26 in action and vastly better than the original imo), if there is a 40" version of that defi have a look.

The best lcd's ive seen have been from Toshiba, JVC, Sony + Panasonic - check them all out aswell.

Is there much picture quality difference between the plasma and LCD's.Had a look and tried to compare in a TV/HiFi shop locally but found it dificult to tell them apart.

I like the look of that Samsung, aslong as it is wall mountable :)

Had a look at the Panasonic Viera and that is a lovely looking TV but the bloke at Tesco said he couldn't switch it on as he wasn't allowed to

Plasmas have better contrast and can produce proper black.

I wouldnt just put it down to that, id put it down to considering any two models at hand based on their own abilities. For instance a great LCD will probably be a lot better than a older or basic entry level Plasma with regards blacklevel ability.

Shimmyhill is right, i reckon a high end LCD will be an option in the 32" size or a discounted and possibly outgoing larger Plasma, once again size quantity Vs overall quality.

Spot on imo, i would take the Samsung LCD over the Samsung Plamsa as Samsung make terrible plasma screens.

Well I was assuming that he was asking about 2 high end models.

£1300 is the most i can squeeze off the "conservatory budget" Who needs glass anyway!

Im not sure on LCD or Plasma, just would like to know the best option to buy in either catergory given the budget.

Your best bet really is to get yourself to a local dealer and explain to them your budget, what you want from the display ie what components you are connecting to it, what future plans you have and let them demo some sets for you. You should also take some dvds with you to try, don't take films like Shrek, Shark Tales etc as these can make any screen look good, take some demanding films like Lord of the Rings, King Kong to name a few and let your eyes be the judge, because at the end of the day you are the one watching the screen. I demod loads of screens before I choose the one I liked the best, some people like it, some don't but at the end of the day I like it. Don't bother with the generic high street stores their screens are generally not set up to well and are usually more expensive.

Let your eyes be the judge young skywalker

I would throw another hat in the ring, the pwd8 from panasonic, a 42" plasma that produces, the best standard definition picture at this price.

Its a panel only, no speakers, and you add the connection board you want, (they were doing a deal with component and svid board included recently)

Its a very flat panel and looks the bomb wall mounted.

With an hdmi board fitted it will handle a high def feed very well Im told.

If you can possibly compare this panel with the ones you are looking at (and if you can put up with using your own speakers and amp for sound) then I would urge you to give it a close look.

Many people in the know rate this screen highly.

Good luck whatever you choose.

The pwd8 has a resolution of only 852x480 but is a damn fine screen for the money which can be had for around £1000 but you will need to add speakers and terminal boards.

Yep, spot on.

Its can be hard to get your head round the fact that more pixels don't neciseraly
make a better picture. Was for me anyway. I'm fairly sure it would still spank allcomers at £1300 properly set up.

You could use sky if you had it or a decent freeview box. If you shop around the pwd8 can be had for around £1000 including terminal boards giving you £300 to buy extra's like a freeview box, wall bracket etc.
