Hi guys,

I'm looking at my new rig. Few things not sure on: GPU + Mobo and CPU. Thinking maybe all I need is an i5 and could get a cheaper asus z97 mobo. And GPU I *could get a 290 or 780 for a little less and still be a powerhouse. Thoughts?

**note I already have some new RAM for the rig + HDDs and SSD's.

Only major thing I can think of is to change the CPU to a retail version for the longer warranty, otherwise it's going to be one sweet build! :D

Thanks man, compared to my current setup, anything would be good :) — I might yet end up going for a 290 or 780 but I think either way it'd still be a killer build. The 780ti is my pref, however I still debate spending so much on a GPU :P

The only thing with that mobo is it says it only supports 4th gen chips, would I be more future proof to get a mobo that supports 5th gen as well... just incase?

Good shout man, 10 Yr warranty, hell yeh. Good price too.

290 x Would get my vote.

Thanks mate, yea the 290x does look tastey and slightly more affordable.

Yea, I think a 290x would save me a little bit and still be a monster. Although I can spend big, I'm still looking to save where I can.

Was looking at this... still quite pricey, but less than the ti — Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Slight fear of MSI through some bad experiences.

Yeah that Sapphire is also a good shout mate, just went with the MSI as they have 3 years warranty and a good turnaround time

Would they be priced similarly?

Personally wouldn't wait for them, doubt there is any difference in performances and it would cost a bit more. Also go with the gigabyte 290x, saves you a bit, I like that it is all blacked out so fits better with, added some cables to better fit the nice orange theme of the mother board too, might need to change those around didn't check what cables you needed exactly.

They are supposed to run cooler are they not ? As for the price, well only time will tell on that one. They are supposed to be out around the middle of June so it's not that long of a wait.

Whats the performance gain from 290 to 290x? Im guessing minimal.. Also, have you got experience with the NZXT case? Got lots of good reviews I see.

I don't think the performance increase justifies the extra outlay for a 290X. I would stick with a 290.

If you are going to wait for the new cpu, then I would take a look at the Phanteks Enthoo Pro which is due for release in July. It is a lot of case for the money.

I take it the pro would still have ample space for sli / crossfire and all that one might need.. it does look nice. I was very taken by the full version but price put me off.
