1366x768 screens everywhere... Why!?!?

you'd think if clevo laptops were made more accessible to the public they would sale shed loads, found one place in uk you can custom build them but only for trade only customers.

There is another place where you can find a clevo reseller in the uk. Obviously we aren't allowed to post links but you will find it if you look on google. They do a model called the Optimus III which is heading my (rather long) shortlist at the moment :)

Any chance of Ocuk becoming a Clevo reseller at some point? That would be fantastic.

My current laptop is built on a clevo chassis and I have a bit of experience of them in general, overall build quality and durability is pretty solid, rarely hear of any problems with them, but theres the odd bit of the design thats a little cheap plasticy.

In general with clevo:

+Excellent well thought out cooling system (can add to the weight over alternatives but worth it imo)

+No frills does what it says on the tin

+Good quality keyboards with a nice hard sprung feel to the key press (feels a bit like a mechanical keyboard).

-Drivers are a bit basic and software support pretty much non-existant - but its not a huge issue as it just works you just don't get any fancy features and only get driver updates if something is majorly broken - generally tho you only need the drivers off windows update which work fine.

-Built in web cam is usually naff on all their models (I never use it any how but might be a concern for some)

-Screens are usually "adequate" don't expect any glossy, sparkling, cutting edge display, they are typically decently bright but about half way between glossy and matt and contrast ratios are pretty average. Color reproduction is ok but nothing special.

Having had to use a 1920x1080 15", I'd AVOID at all costs.

It is too higher res for a 15" screen.

Now 1680x1050. Perfect, next laptop will have that for sure.

And having had mine for 3 months now, I'd say you are 100%, categorically wrong.

I'd not go back to a sub 1080p screen on 15.6"

How abouy 1080p on a 13.1 inch screen? Currently considering a vaio z and they have the option of full hd or 1600 x 900. I think the latter would be perfect tbh. 1080p might be too much?

I always preferred 1280x800 myself anyway. All 1366x768 has done is make laptops wider, which then means many manufacturers cram in a numpad to fill some space. Terrible.

^THIS. I've recently been asked to recommend someone a laptop, and all I see are numpads. Numpads everywhere. I would much prefer a full size keyboard and maybe some media keys. A numpad on a 15" laptop is, to me, a little excessive.

And I wouldn't mind if this was just one or two laptops, to give the choice if you happened to require a numpad. It's everywhere!

Maybe it's just me. The screen resolution issue bothers me as well. Until a few years ago, my laptop had a resolution of 1400x1050. In fact, I still have a Dell D600 that has exactly that. My newer laptop has 1280x800.

I am greatly disheartened by the way consumer level laptop quality is, slowly but steadily, decreasing.

I personally think when using a 15.6" laptop a lot to type and read stuff on the web etc that 1920x1080 is excessive and can be annoying after a while, on a 17" laptop that res is perfect though. There are some 15-16" 1600x900 resolution laptops around which if you are going to be using a lot day in and day out, coding, reading stuff on the web etc, would probably be much easier on the eye's and graphics card when/if gaming.

1366x768 Should probably now only be on 10-11" laptops/netbooks and very basic/low end laptops.

OcUK used to sell clevo based laptops - but from what I remember there was too many issues with supply and they switched to MSI. (MSI are probably better margins and after sales/warranty support for mainstream laptops to).

I did not know that :) Which Clevo based system do you currently have?

As for the debate on 1080p screens. God I am STILL undecided! I went into town today to have a look at some laptops so I could compare a 1080p 15" screen but couldn't find any in the large computer shops we had. The only one that came close was a Asus N55SF (which looked hideous) and a Sony VPC series machine (which looked like a very nice bit of kit actually) but they were both 16" screens running 1600x900 resolution.

The semi-conclusion I've come to is you may aswel have a 1080p screen as you can scale anything that you may find easy to read, this becomes even more of an attractive option with a multi-touch touchpad which sadly the Clevo system I'm looking at doesn't come with.
