An inmate was fatally beaten to death by prison guards who savagely punched and kicked him as he lay shackled and defenseless, horrific bodycam footage shows.

Robert Brooks, 43, was pronounced dead on December 10, the morning after the brutal assault at the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County.
His final, agonizing moments were caught on body worn cameras used by prison officers which showed the attack as well as several prison wardens failing to intervene.

Thirteen correction officers and a nurse implicated in the attack will face termination, according to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who said she was 'outraged and horrified' by videos of the 'senseless killing.'

The footage was made public Friday by the New York Attorney General Letitia James and shows three correction officers carrying Brooks aloft into a medical examination room.

Once inside, they repeatedly punching Brooks in the face and groin as he sits handcuffed on a medical examination table.

At one point one of the officers shoves his boot into Brooks' stomach, forcing him backwards, while another yanks him up by his neck and drops him back on the table.
As he becomes limp and unresponsive, another officer enters and shackles his ankles with a chain.

They then haul him into a corner and are seen struggling to keep him upright as his body lolls backwards.

He is placed back on the medical table, but remains unresponsive even as the guards try to rouse him.

The officers then remove the his shirt and pants as he lies motionless and bloodied on his back
Equally disturbing is the number of officers who witness the attack and no nothing to intervene.

Brooks was declared dead at a hospital the following morning. Preliminary findings from a medical examination indicate 'concern for asphyxia due to compression of the neck as the cause of death, as well as the death being due to actions of another,' according to court filings. The final results of the autopsy are still pending.

The videos do not include audio because the body cameras had not been activated by the officers wearing them.

James said her office was investigating the use of force that led to the death, but did not say whether any of the officers involved in the beating would face criminal charges.

'These videos are shocking and disturbing and I advise all to take appropriate care before choosing to watch them,' she added.
Brooks had been serving a 12 year prison sentence for first-degree assault since 2017, according to the department.

He had arrived at the Marcy Correctional Facility only hours before the beating, after being transferred from another nearby state prison, officials said.

Guessing there's gonna be more BLM rioting in the US now this has come to light.

According the NY Times, 3 of the officers involved have previously been sued by inmates for similar beating incidents

What did he do prior to this?

From the Manchester police incident it should be everyone's first question, what part of the sequence of events hasn't been shown yet. 14 people don't react like that for no reason.
You’ve just seen a lynching - while this fella was undoubtedly a wrong ‘un, killing him like this isn’t really how you want society to deal with criminals?

irreverent. Didn't realise prison guards can dish out summary capitol punishment.

If you've got fourteen people kicking you to death, it doesn't matter if it's a prison guard or a gang of nuns, you need to question your life choices.

It's a bit soon to say FAFO as we only have half the story as usual, but I wouldn't be surprised if he deserved it tbh.

Yep a bit different to the Manchester Airport incident where you can excuse the actions of the police in the heat of the moment, while trying to arrest a group actively resisting arrest. This guy is already cuffed and in the care of those officers, 14 v 1 while restrained, i'm not sure what that prisoner could do that could warrant that kind of response. Deserved to be in prison, and i wouldn't lose any sleep if this was prisoner vs prisoner, but the footage will be extremely hard to justify.

It's the approach I take issue with. These events are always posted with no context at all and expect us to sympathise with career criminals who routinely inflict misery and torment onto others for decades prior.

Sorry but I'm all out of any kind of sympathy.

Regardless of what happened before its going to be very hard to justify 14 people killing someone who is detained. Its really very different to the Manchester incident.
