Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a new monitor early next year and am curious to learn how a larger screen with the same number of pixels, say a 30 -32", fares at the same 16:9 resolution? Does it start to look blocky and unrefined or is there some leeway?

I'm considering either moving to something along the lines of the above or just graduating to an ultrawide or 4K (I wouldn't want to sacrifice the 144hz refresh rate if getting an ultrawide or 4K screen, though).

At this stage, I'm really not too sure. I think it will need to be an IPS screen as I use it for some light content creation and design work.

Any input/user experience appreciated, ta. :)

If you're changing from 27" to 32", both at 1440p, then 32" will appear slightly softer as the pixel pitch increases, but I'd say 1440p at 32" works really well. It's also the same pixel pitch as 1080p on a 24" screen.

Thanks. Yeah, from what I've been reading over the weekend, 32" seems to be about the limit for that res.

I'm still not sure whether to go for the above or look at ultrawide/4K.

I won't be buying until early next year but I don't want to drop lower than the refresh I already have - if anything I'd like to go higher.

Other considerations are something like an IPS (for design work/light content creation) with Freesync 2/G-Sync compatibility.

A few I've been looking into:

Yes, some of the LG monitors are really nice, they're certainly among my considerations when purchasing a new screen. Cheers.

Am I right in thinking that you can enable G-Sync to work on quite a number of FreeSync monitors?

The monitor should have G-Sync compatible listed to be sure it will work with an nVidia 10 series and later. Though lots of monitors will work anyway as the manufacturer just didn't test it as maybe the model has been out for awhile. So for any monitor without the specific compatibility listed just do some searches to confirm it.

I have both a 34" UW 3440 x 1440 and a 32" 2560 x 1440 here and I recently switched to the 32" monitor as found it better overall in general use. The 34" UW for me was better in certain games but could be a little on the small pixel size in Windows but that may also be because my eyes are getting a bit old. The 32" fills the space in front of you a bit more with more vertical height and I wouldn't go bigger myself at this res.

Mine is the Dell 32" S3220DGF which is well reviewed and well calibrated like a lot of Dell monitors. I recommended the Gigabyte 32" G32QC to a friend as I knew he played FPS games a bit more than me so liked the more curved panel (too much for me) but both are really good VA monitors with 165 MHz refresh.

Ultimately I'd like a 38" 3840 x 1600 QHD+ monitor but it must be VA so still waiting on that one.

32" 1440p is the sweet spot for gaming imo. Big immersive image with high frame rates with the right kit. Either that of 1440p ultrawide. What i'm waiting for are decent 32" 1440p ips panels with good hdr support. HDMI 2.1 would be nice too.
