1440p freesync monitor advice

Having just been delivered a Sapphire Vega 56 the other day, I have decided that really I need to upgrade my monitor, currently I have a very old Samsung 1080p screen and I would like to upgrade this to 1440p. I have about £500 to play with, I'm not sure were to start, as I have never brought a monitor before, my current one was a hand me down.

Should I go with Freesync?

At work I have duel monitor set up and like the wide working space. With this in mind do I go for an ultra wide or two smaller monitors?
