1440p GPU

Currently have 670 2gb SLI im wondering if a single card even a 780Ti much of an upgrade.

Maybe not an upgrade in pure FPS terms but it will 'feel' smoother and more consistent then your 670's.

I moved from Crossfire 7950's to my current 780 and the 7950's are faster but the smoothness of the 780 makes it easily worth the change.

Go Nvidia IMO yes its more expensive but you get what you pay for these days, that's not to say AMD cards are not good because they are and you would be happy with either however a few points to consider:

Nvidia have G-sync lined up and I can't wait after having spent an hour in front of a demo screen

Mantle while AMD tech will have an open source component that specifically would allow Nvidia to write a driver and use mantle (If they can ever be bothered)

The 780 is a top performing card and it's in stock (A lightly oc'd 780 will mince a titan up)

I hear of more people with the 290 dreaded black screen issue every week, very rarely have I seen many Nvidia related threads (Specifically for the 780)

Miners are all over AMD cards right now pushing the price up and the availability down

its a 780.

I think it is down to personal preference at the moment without looking at coming up techs.

G-Sync, you will be required to buy a new monitor with most likely a high mark up on price which will add to the overall cost.

Mantle is currently only working on the GCN GPU, therefore it is not as easy as creating a driver for Nvidia's currently GPU's, they will have to design a new GPU in line with the Mantle tech.

As for the 780 being the top performing card, I believe there is many benchmarks out now where the new Asus 290 DirectCU is out performing the 780's and are cheaper with new tech (Mantle) coming free of charge. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18567025&highlight=290+DirectCU

Don't get me wrong, Nvidia are great at what they do, AMD alike. On terms of graphics card performers they are basically price/performance on par now. Just go with what features catches your eye the most.

I have ordered the asus r9 290 directcu ii hoping that it will perform better with the new cooler from reading reviews. The heat disappation out the back is what swayed me over the gigabyte swirling around in the case. I also bought the free games from ebay for £20! Still cheaper than the 780. I just hope it's up to it for arma at 1440p. I will probably crossfire in the future.

I moved from 2x 680's to one R9 290x and @ 1440p the one R9 290x feels a lot smoother and more consistent. The 290 only lacks behind a couple of FPS against the 290x so you will be fine!
