I have a Nvidia 2080Ti and play Starfield mainly and openworld MMO. I have an old Benq 60hz 24" monitor that isnt up to it anymore.

I need a new 27" 1440p monitor for gaming and office that isnt curved. The office laptop can only do 1080p over USB-c or HDMI. The 2080Ti has DP and HDMI.

I am looking at this price range and have these in mind? Are there any watchouts that you can think of?

If the laptop has that restriction and you can plug it in, it might cause the monitor to interpolate and the quality of that varies. It used to be tested in reviews, I think prad.de do still test for it (there are pictures in the review of the text and graphics).

For non-native resolutions, the options “Auto”, “4:3” and “16:9” are available in the OSD . There is no description of the first option in the OSD. However, based on our tests, we suspect that this should always result in a page-appropriate enlargement. The options were selectable under Windows, but did not result in the desired display. Basically, a page-appropriate enlargement was displayed. If the 4:3 option was then selected with a 4:3 resolution , the image was compressed because a 4:3 image was created from the page-correct representation that had already been made. However, when playing the signal with a Blu-ray player, the options worked without any problems.

We compared the native resolution with the smaller 16:9 resolution with 1280 x 720 pixels. The display was sharp, but appeared pixelated on the monitor. Gamers are likely to have a graphics card that can easily display the native resolution with a lot of detail, so interpolation should not be used frequently.

Unless you’re dead set on a high refresh rate monitor, I’d look at a 4K option. That will scale nicely to 1080p. At 1440p its doubtful if you’ll see any scaling defects especially in games.

As an aside, how old is the office laptop? Being restricted to 1080p is quite an odd thing to see these days

So when I am connected to laptop in 1080p on the 27" monitor the text and excel and work documents might look rubbish?

As someone who used to have a work laptop that only did 1080p and used it on a 1440p screen, yes it's not as sharp

But the lack or refresh rate was more annoying than resolution, the laptop could only do 1080p 60hz and it was a 144hz monitor

I run two 24" HD monitors currently from both the work laptop and gaming PC. I need to swap out the one monitor that is now starting to have lines on cold start up and takes 10 mins to warm up and get a clear screen.

I am surprised that Overclockers don't stock Dell monitors.

Dell 27 Gaming Monitor - G2724D

This is another option at the £200 price, great reviews and Black Friday coming up...

Fantastic monitor, IPS panel, just ordered one at £175- no brainer at this price

I pulled the trigger on the Dell G2724D...

The monitor is fantastic at handling the laptop at 1080p and Starfield at 1440p. You can set a two button switch as well for fast input source changing.

Overlockers need to stock this monitor its a beast.

I rarely see Dell monitors on any sites other than the rainforest and Dell's own site - occasionally they pop up elsewhere but for the most part they're out of stock or just not available anymore.

I bought my 240hz 1080p Alienware monitor from the Curry house and it's no longer there at all - they only have one Dell/Alienware monitor and that's been unavailable for a while so I do wonder if it's not an Overclockers issue but rather how Dell want to sell their products.
