Hi all,

First post so be gentle!

I have just treat myself to a Gaming PC after quite a number of years console gaming. I am quite clued up with TV's, sound systems that kind of thing, but this one is making me scratch my head.

Can someone please clarify which cable I need to output 144hz to my new 144hz monitor, based on the below information.

My monitor: Acer XF240 24"
My PC (relevant components): Motherboard MSI Z370 Tomohawk, graphics card is MSI Gaming 1070ti 8GB.

So far I have tried the DP connection on the graphics card, but I can't seem to select 144hz in the settings.

Many Thanks :)

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Displayport should be the correct cable. That's what I am using on my 27" Dell 144mhz Gsync monitor and it works fine. It should be in the Nvidia control panel next to the resolution. This wouldn't be anything to do with using a Nvidia card on a Freesync monitor would it? Maybe you need to disable Freesync to get it to work like a normal monitor (just guessing as I have never used one).

Have you looked in the monitor OSD menus?

Hi Ted, I haven't had chance to look in the settings as I only set the PC up yesterday. Could there be something in there that needs changing? I assumed it would be the PC/cable rather than the monitor setting so I will give this a try later.

Hi mate thanks for the welcome :)

I checked in the Nvidia control panel and only 60hz was available (using the DP cable) therefore you may be correct with Freesync being an issue. I will have a look into this and report back later.

Thanks both for the replies!

How long is your DP cable? DP cables can be very twitchy at the extremes. A DP cable with thicker wires will pay dividends.

Hi all, managed to resolve this. The issue seemed to be in the Nvidia control panel. The settings were at the usual 1920 x 1080 (native), I had to select 1920 x 1080 further down, and this brought up 144hz in the drop down menu.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions :)
