£150 budget

the 4870 1gb completely owns the 9800GTX+....I really recommend spending the little bit extra.

I agree - the 4870 beats the 9800GTX+ by a margin.

That said - if you would prefer an NVidia product their GTX260 is a nice card. This EVGA is a great price and only a fiver more than the 4870.

Highly reputable company and a 10yr warranty... it's where my money would go. :)

Yea i am debating on this ATI now mind the 260 GTX is tempting too for the extra fiver, would i need 1GB memory as i play SPORE and Empire: Total War a lot and just needed that extra bit of power to play it in higher resolutions, want obviously the best for the pounds.

The 4870 is marginally better than that 192 model of the GTX260. however, as someone else mentioned. the 10 year warranty and the fact its EVGA might well tempt me to buy nvidia in this situation.

I think it'd be a coin flip for me between that GTX260-192 and the 4870 1GB. A bit faster or a bit cheaper with a longer warranty... I guess it depends on your priorities, really.

Dunno, even if the GTX 260 192 was cheaper I would still get the 4870 1gb....

maybe it would be different if it was GTX 260 216 vs 512mb 4870......

I agree Gurusan - it is a difficult choice. :(

I've heard so many great things about the 1gb 4870 - it's just a shame that i've never properly got on with ATi's offerings since the 9800pro/x8** years.

If i had i'm sure i would have rushed out and bought one at release.

It's completely up to the op of course - i don't think he'd be disappointed with either card!

Well I bought the the xfx 4870 1gb last month and whilst I agree its a good card I did ditch it 2 weeks later when I found a 280gtx for £205. Really need to get it up on MM.

Go for whatever one you want. Evga warranty will reall mean squat in a few years because any replacement card is ever only going to be an equal for that card and that may not be much in a few years time
