GF has just purchased a 32" HDTV and I have just purchased an Xbox 360. We are both into gaming and movies so though I would treat ourselves to a surround sound setup to go with. My budget is £150. Any suggestions?

Cheers.

At that budget there's not really a lot to choose between them, try and get one without an integrated DVD player and go for a named brand like Sony / Philips / Panasonic / Samsung etc. and you should be fine.

i recon even a £20 speaker is gona sound better than most stf tv speakers. SO still worth it if that all he can afford.

agreed, we all know it's not the best but still better than tv and most proberbly better than most all-in-ones,

and squiffy not everyone wants an expensive setup, I know PLENTY of people that are perfectly happy with a 5.1 all-in-one dvd and surround sound setup, you know the ones that come with a diddy little sub and a set of tinny sat's, they actually really enjoy the sound when watching films and even use them to play their CD's on, I know personaly it does'nt sound that good but they are happy and that's all that matters,

I can pretty much guarantee that if the original poster went ahead and purchased the system spec I lay'd out once setup he/she would be impressed, or at the very least, happy, I'd rather have a surround sound setup made up of £20 eltax speakers and a £100 amp than just have the sound comming from the TV's own speakers.

IMO i think that system lowrider suggested looks really good and would look really nice in their room.

It seems like a good deal to start with and maybe upgrade later.

Yeah you could get a mix of £20 cheap speakers second hand and a different amp and center speakers but then you would keep looking at it thinking "that dont look right" all the time.

IMO it would be better to go £30 over budget and keep that set up for a couple of years then add to it.

Agree 100% with you there mate.
We all start somewhere and gradually improve the systems we own. Im sure there are people on these Forums who once thought there 5w + 5w system from Bush was the dogs danglies :D

Quite possibly the best most constructive piece of advice I've seen given on the forum to someone asking about budget surround sound. Granted it won't even come close to Squiffy's mega buck multi million pund setup but I'm sure the OP would be more than impressed with it compared to his TV's speakers. A great starting place and a very good alternative to a home cinema in a box package, nice work!

i got that centre speaker as i cant afford much...its a damn sight better than the tv's efforts. along with that i also got the cheapo floor standers from richer sounds....ok, not the best in the world for the real audio experts but perfectly fine for me (in fact theres some nice bass coming from them) and they look nice :)
id say got for that set up lowrider has suggested and just work at it over time, i dont think you'll be disappointed.(my humble opinion of course)
all the best,
steve.
