Went to Preston Hall BMW bodyshop today. Met a friendly estimator who came out and had a look at a rust bubble on my E46 just below the boot lid on the main body...

He explained the enitre rear bumper would have to come off and then they would sand down the rust bubble and then respray the whole back lip. After a bit of talking I managed to get a quote for £150 including VAT (he originally wanted 150+VAT) and agreed to buff out a few scratches for me :)

Does this seem like a good price for this bit of work or can it possibly be done cheaper?

dont bmw have some kind of anti-corrosion warrenty? I would be pretty peed about that on a newish car. I would say the quote you have is OK, not bad nor good.

Yes but really cheap quotes mean one thing only.
Screws in the sills. :p

Quote is about right, wouldnt push any further down tbh.

They do, I'm not peeved as I knew full well about this rust when I bought the car a month ago.

It's 12 years for cars made after 2004 and 6 years for cars made after 2001 IIRC

Hence mine is out of warranty :(

Thing is by taking it to BMW I at least get a good guarantee and warranty. I can also be assured or at least hope that they would do a back to factory quality repair so may be worth paying a little over the odds?

A 6 year anti corrosion warranty? Thats pretty crap when most cars have had 10 year warranties for a long time.

I've never dealt with a BMW Bodyshop, apologies if I am mistaken :o

I'll have a little ask around then..

It took 4 visits and a letter to the dealer principle before my car was eventually 'factory standards' :p Stupid things like runs in the paint, dust under the paint, dust all over the interior, etc etc..

Only ever dealt with Ford bodyshop and although a good job there were other issues such as the fixing of the bumper to the bodywork, my backbox hanging off etc etc.

I guess the question I should really be asking is..

"How much to repair this damage?"

£100 seemed the figure in my head butI thought that paying the extra in BMW may guarantee a bit more quality but I guess not :(

Oh they managed all the big stuff just fine - its the quality control and finishing off that they failed at, in epic style.
