I have £150 to spend on a new CPU and motherboard. It must have onboard graphics as i don't have a separate one at the mo. I don't really game anymore. I use the PC for all photo editing / camcorder stuff, internet, word processing etc.

Any ideas what my money would get and which way i should go? Thanks

Like stulid was trying to divine, you're gonna need memory with that. So do you have any existing is your £150 budget for CPU, Mobo and Memory?

No chance for anything modern.

EDIT: No chance for anything previous generation with these RAM prices. :S I thought an AM2 build was looking good for a while not much DDR2 selection on OcUK.

Yeh I'm looking for a similar price for my parents' computer - gonna look at a second hand 775/AM2 + DDR2 ram.

Yeh I would maybe agree about buying a new mobo, but you can pick up some bargain core 2's - my mate recently got an s775 which we cranked up to 2.9ghz on a stock cooler, with good temps in about half an hour, he paid about 25 squids for it. I forget the exact model, but if I recall its a mid range one released about 2 yrs ago. Bargain.

Quite fancy the:

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 635 2.90GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail [ADX635WFGIBOX]

Need a nice motherboard now that will take DDR3, has onboard Graphics and doesn't cost the eart!!

Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 microATX Motherboard [GA-MA785GMT-UD2H]

This motherboard is ok to buy with the above CPU then guys? Ta
