Hi guys,
I know I already submitted a thread with my planned build, but I realize I probably didn't spec out the best I can get for my money; so I just wanted to make a separate thread and ask if anyone can spec me a build please?

I work on video games, mainly using Zbrush, 3d studio max, Photoshop and Unreal Engine 4(among other pieces of software)
I also play video games.

I have around 1500£ to spend, and I would very much like the i7 6700 4ghz. I can't decide between a 1070 or a 1080, although I am aware a 1080 would probably go over my 1500£ budget. In which case, I could maybe stretch another £200, and 32gb RAM would be great.

Any help is gratefully appreciated and apologies for the second thread!

Thanks,
Jon.

Only the 6950X costs a fortune, 6800k is a 6c12t cpu, I think around £400 or so. I would maybe get a 5820k instead, a cheaper Haswell-E alternative, in my opinion a X99 cpu would serve you better than a Z170, especially in coding applications.

Would you say that the Broadwell is better for both Zbrush and Video gaming also?

I work as an artist as opposed to coding.

Thank you for the build there Lee, that looks cool. I just want to confirm that this processor/motherboard is better for my needs as a video game artist and a video game player. :)

Thanks

One other question, would it be wise to stretch for a 1080 or will a 1070 satisfy my needs for the next few years?

The problem I can see with the 6core 3.3 ghz processor over the 4core 4ghz is that Zbrush is very much a single core piece of software. So I wonder if the speed of the 4core would be better suited.

1080p 1440p or 4k?

Personally, I'd go for the RX 480 Nitro or Strix when they're released. I wouldn't spend more than £300 on a GPU. Nvidia is taking an absolute ****.

Choice is yours

If it's 4k I could understand. Even if it's 1440p the 1070 would be a better choice even though it carries a high price tag. If it's 1080p the 480 would be ideal.

I just use an IPS 16:10 monitor and a Wacom Cintiq 27" which is 2.5k" resolution . But I plan to use this computer through to a laptop in my living room as a 'steambox' which is at 1080p. I plan to get a 4k TV eventually though so I would like to have that potential.

I rather use Nvidia too, I've had no end of problems with ATI cards and 3d packages / UE4 with my machine at work.

If you're planning to go 4k at some point and you're wanting the gpu to last a few years I'd go for the 1080 over the 1070.

You would need to check if the software can make use of the extra cpu cores/threads. If it can then the i7 5820K will be a better option.

It is also a good cpu for gaming, and the extra cores might come in handy for DX12 titles.

Thank you so much! I think that is the build I will go for.
Will I be okay not having liquid cooling on that? How will it fare with OCing (if I did any?)
Seems like a great build though, happy with it.

Thats a good Air cooler, top air coolers do tend to be quieter than AIOs and perform just as well.

Overclocking...well no reason you cant obtain 4Ghz to maybe 4.5Ghz, all depends on the cpu itself as they vary form sample to sample.

I would like to OC the Processor to 4ghz, would that fan be okay for that?
Also, I forget, do I need to order Sata cables for the SSD and HDD or will that come with it? It's been so long since I ordered new hardware.

Thanks for your help :)

Yes it will be fine for that.

The motherboard will come with SATA cables, probably six-eight of them, some with 90 degree connectors at one end and some all straight.
