£1500 Build

I’ve tried each stick of memory in each slot and get same result.

Resteated the cpu and doesn’t seem to be any bent pins.

Should the psu fans be spinning regardless? I plugged that into the mains with nothing else connected and no fans spun up.

silly question, did you short the PWR pins so the PC actually starts up?
some motherboards will have argb lighting still on, even when the computer is off

Errmmm I haven’t done anything with any pins. Motherboard power lead connected and cpu power connected.

Turned on at the back of the PSU, haven’t done anything else. I wanted to test it before putting it into a case

oh, if you just flicked the psu on but haven't booted, the mobo lights can be on...my asus board can have the mobo lights on even if pc not booted...that can be toggled on and off in bios...only when you push the power button, does it then power everything else, so fans spin up etc

if I'm reading what you're saying right

that's why the computer ain't POSTing/booting lol!
you'll need to short the PWR pins to get the computer to POST/boot

I swear I didn’t used to do that years ago. Was there a jumper or something you moved across? I vaguely remember back in the Barton 2500xp days

That was probably clearing the CMOS on the motherboard with a jumper but at least your getting there.
It was annoying me so much I went back through the archives and a power switch cable used to be included in old motherboards. They used to be connected to the board and then ran through to the case.

Explains how I overlooked it.

We all learnt something with this build :D

You tested it yet, played a game ?

Not yet, was a late finish by the time I’d added my new monitor and rearranged my desk ready for work this morning.

Motherboard drivers etc need installing, will be some cyberpunk tonight. Bizarrely cyberpunk is the game that planted the seed to get back into Pc gaming.
