Im thinking of setting up a SCSI RAID0 array, just for a change, and to experiment a little :)

Thing is, both my rigs are quiet, and im not sure how loud SCSI is exactly...

Im thinking of putting the case (antec SLK3000B) inside a MDF cabinet i could make easily, which i would soundproof with some loft insulation, and drilling some holes / meshing the front and rear a little...

Would that dampen the sound do you think ?

Any ideas people ?

Would be using a 4 disc, 18gb 15k raid0 array on a PCI controller of some sort, or i might be tempted to use an older dual CPU board, go PCI-X and get some 1.6ghz Xeons :D

so youd say its a no no ?

if i went the dual cpu route, id use that for encoding, so may still go ahead with the experiment...

would probably build a custom case, so could incorporate a small enclosure with a fan at either end, and soundproof the sides, top and bottom :) and suspend them :D

It can be a bit random, I had a new'ish 10k U320 Maxtor and that was fine lounder yes but not too loud.

As madman045 had some old scsi drives and they were loud !!

Just try and source 68pin, 80pin with converters are a real pain.

EDIT: and the performance is well worth it :)
