Would you do it?
My job is 15 mins away but i'm looking for another, most of the decent opportunity's are in london so that means commuting from Milton Keynes to London every day (an hour by train + other travel)
Any one else do similar commutes? and do you want to kill yourself yet? :)

Takes me about 1 hour 10 mins to get to work at the moment with the current traffic, it doesn't bother me that much. The clowns on the road annoy me more than the actual travelling.

If it was 1hr+ by car I'd say no (currently do that), i fit's on public transport then fine, read a book, listen to music and chill out for an hour, assuming you can get a seat.

If it's a better job go for it, if it's roughly the same for a tiny pay rise I'd think twice!

Yes I would do it. It used to take me 1 hour 30 mins to get to school in the 90s from Finchley to Twickenham. It didn't bother me at all.

Do it by public trasport and it's much more enjoyable. You can read, listen to music etc. As Kami says.

Hmm id think it would be one of the more hellish commuter runs (popular)
Try it out one day for a test run - if you have a day off.
Expensive too id guess a good 4 or 5 grand a year in fairs.

Depends what you are getting paid now and what the London jobs offer.

I would travel 2 hours each way to work if the pay was good enough to warrant it.

my train is about 2 hours 20mins into london each day with a 10min drive to the station and 10min walk in london, you get used to it, find things to do with the time, reading/training, get a notebook and watch movies, play games,

I live and work in London, and my journey is 1 hour each way.

I like it, as I watch tv shows on my phone :D

My commute is about an hour.

I read books, listen to music, watch videos, do some coding on the laptop. I look at it as an hour to do whatever I want to do, without being hassled by workmates/family.

:)

if the jobs worth it then its worth doing - i said i wouldn't do anything over 30 min when i was last looking, got offered a job that was more than worth it so i'm doing 1hrs-1hr 30min at the moment.

Sucks when the traffic screws up like this morning, 3 hrs to get it :( but audio books keep me sane.

Going by train (if viable) is much better though - being able to sit and read / watch films etc is a great way to unwind in the evening.

I did worry about that as MK is one of the most popular places to commute from.

The money isn't massively extra but the company has better scope for the future + they may be willing to incur the travel costs!

Maybe I'm just nervous due to being so used to being able to get to work so effortlessly!

By public transport an hour is easy, especially if you can limit the changes - as has been said just take a book/iPod/laptop and chill out or even catch a 30 min nap :p The trip in is normally fine, its the one back that is the annoying one, when you lose your evening time.

Get job in London, commute till job is secure/you enjoy it, move to London :p

No, not unless the salary is massively increased.

What is the cost of losing, lets face it, 90 minutes each end of your day? Thats 3 hours of time, gone, and then the cost of a season ticket on the train which is going to be several thousand quid a year isnt it?

My new commute is 4.5 miles

I travelled to Miltons Keynes from London the other week. Took 30 Minutes
I like the commute to work, it gets me prepared for the day. I hate the commute home.

I agree. People ask how I do it every day. I say easy, I watch films on my lappy and read.. whilst you're honking your horn in a car taking 30 minutes to do a few miles.

btw, Once you work in London, it's difficult to get out ;)

My commute is around 50 minutes (sometimes over an hour if there's roadworks along the way) if i leave at 8am, or around 25 minutes if i leave at 7:30.

It's nothing really. My boss commutes to Brentwood from Bristol... and a friend of mine commutes from Chelmsford to Paris! (although his commute is paid for).

A lot of people do it so it cant be too bad!

My commute can take an hour, but thats driving. I was prepared to get the train though if the locations were better.

I think you'd be fine, just get a good MP3/4 player or a netbook and watch TV or films or listen to music.
