15min commute to over a hour

Beg to differ :p

Live in Limehouse, 15 minutes into the City, my flatmate works in t'Wharf and so has the trials of a 15 minute walk to work :p \o/

One thing I'm not looking forward to about moving Californee-way - having to frickin drive everywhere  *spits* :p
See, my worst nightmare is being stuck in the middle of London with no car and having to base my entire life around public transport, my local area and the people that live there. What do you do when you want to visit people, get a train somewhere and wait for them to pick you up? And what if people want to visit you and can't park anywhere and have to sit in hours of traffic? What happens when you move house, you have to ask someone with a car to come and help? Or even if you want to take something to the tip, or buy something big?

Yep! Helpfully, most people that live outside London need cars, so have one to do the picking up in :)

Building has private parking (and I have no car which is helpful!).

Streetvan/Streetcar for the win - hourly rentals of vans and cars, we have a Streetcar about 50m away from our flat which is helpful too :)

Simples! :D

I drive 20 minutes to work and it suits me.

I would be prepared to drive up to 45 minutes or get an hour train but no more.

Sounds like a major pain to me, especially having to hire a car out. Most places don't have parking.

The car is just one of a lot of sacrifices I'd have to make for the sake of my place of work, something I'm just not prepared to do for the sake of a few hours of my life a week.

living & working in east london at the moment. So work is like 10 minutes away.

But I need to start looking at buying a proper home (Sick of estate life) further east so looking at commute becomming an hour.

I'm trying to weight up the pros and cons at the moment, 2 hours of traffic a day/or tedious public transport but a better home or the comfort of work being only a 10 minute drive.

Traffic is bad round here, but as a local, knowing all the side streets really helps getting about even in rush hour. But the A13/A12 will be another story.

Nah Streetvan is great!

You book online, walk up to the car and put your card against the reader on the windscreen and it unlocks. Pop your PIN into the console and off you go. No paperwork, no nothing - drop it off, lock up and put your card against the windscreen to finish off - job done. £8.95 an hour hire, pretty sweet :)

And then get a bus to the station and walk back from there. Er, sounds like hassle again :D

I agree with Jonny69. I do feel trapped in London at times. But then again I probably see more of the country by how easy it is to travel further afield. When there's cheap tickets up to Leeds, or down to Brighton for example. Tube into town, train station and you're off. Easy. Especially if you're used to sitting on a train :p
