Well took my Ford Puma for a dreaded MOT yesterday. I expected a huge fail but to my surprise she passed. I had a shock when i seen the two page list of advisories though!

001 - Offside rear (inner sill) subframe mounting prescribed area is distorted but not considered excessive.

002 - Offside rear (inner sill) subframe mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive.

003 - Nearside rear (wheel arch) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive.

004 - Offside rear (wheel arch) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive.

005 - Nearside front anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a pin/bush

006 - Offside rear shock absorber has a light misting of oil

007 - Nearside front macpherson strut has a slight movement at the upper attachment

008 - Offside rear (back box) exhaust has part of the system slightly deteriorated

009 - Nearside inner front road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim

010 - Nearside rear (buckled) road wheel slightly damaged

011 - Nearside rear brake juddering slightly

012 - Offiside rear brake juddering slightly

013 - Oil leak

014 - Power steering pipes corroded

018 - Handbrake tavel greater than expected.

Don't really know why the tyres are on there as they are all brand new and only a month old! Should i be worried with all them? Normally i only get one or two advisories, not 16! Car has just ticked over 100k and is a Y reg 2001 model.

You probably wouldnt get half those mentioned at a different garage.

Funny you should say that. I have always gone to the same garage apart from this time i went to Mr Tyre as i had wheels from them a few weeks ago and with their point system i got my M.O.T for £29 so thought why not.

Ahh i see, Mr Tyre did the tyres and alignment 2 weeks prior to the M.O.T and nothing was said.

What is advised i do regarding points 9/10? New alloys?

Point 9 to me is just saying that the wheel is badly kerbed, I wouldn't worry about it. Point 10 is a strange one. It can't be badly buckled as they wouldn't of been able to balance it when they fitted your new tyres. I'd probably just ignore that one as well, providing it's balanced up ok.

Take it to a different MOT garage next year. ;)

In the mean time... It passed, so there's nothing there I'd be unduly worried about.

Seems like the worlds pickiest tester.

This is the sort of tester I want doing cars for two reasons:

1. I know that my car is in good shape and nothing is about to break/fall off/leave me stranded.

2. I'm closer to knowing if a car is a potential pos before I buy it. Providing the owner hasn't ditched the adv note (you can get this info online though).

OP, if you flog the car without fixing any of those points, be a good lad and leave the adv note intact ;)

So you expected the car to fail badly, but when it passed you were shocked to get a long list of advisories? Seems to me you should be happy, you now have 12 months to sort the small issues before they turn into bigger ones.

Corrosion should never be a surprise on a Puma though...
