16 advisories on my MOT- Details inside.

I had the opposite the other day. Took the Xsara in and passed with flying colours!

I know for a fact it needs new wishbone rear bushes, a new handbrake cable and new rear discs. Oh and the airbag light was on too.

Ahh i see, Mr Tyre did the tyres and alignment 2 weeks prior to the M.O.T and nothing was said.

What is advised i do regarding points 9/10? New alloys?

Not worth it, its not bad enough to fail on and its unlikely to get worse.

The rust/corrosion on body/ exhaust, and wear in shocks, bushes etc can only get worse and these will cost you when it fails on them next year or the year after depending on how bad they are.

Air bag light isn't a failure.

Bushes can fail but pass an MOT if there is no risk of the components separating or in the testers opinion wont severely affect handling.

Handbrake cables aren't a failure item - as long as the handbrake works and has the required force.

Are the rear disc excessively scored or below minimum thickness?

As for the Op - they are advisories - don't lose any sleep over it. My Cossie has had an advisory for "slight play in steering rack" for the last five years. I'd look at getting the corrosion treated though.

[Forthcoming changes to the MOT are] Illumination of malfunction indicator light (MIL) for electronic power steering, electronic stability control, electronic park brake control, brake fluid warning lamp, tyre pressure monitoring system and air bag / pre‐tensioner

Obviously this isn't actual policy, just a news letter for MOT testers. But its where the rumour that it will be policy has come from.

My side airbag light has been on since I got my car!! I know it's the connectors under the seat because if I push them together the light stays off until someone pulls the seat forward to get into the back. Might cut them, wire them together then use some of that shrinking heat tape to seal them.

I think the words you're looking for are "work generation"

Back when MOT's were £20 ish I took mine to a main ford dealer who were offering MOT's for £10... Failed on tyres touching the plastic wheel arch inserts on full lock.

Bunch of *****

I know airbag isn't a fail but thought I'd get an advisory?

Bushes are knocking badly and levering the wishbone there is significant play in them.

One of the handbrake cables is doing nothing, when jacked up that wheel spins freely.

The rear discs are knackered, scored very badly.

I'm not too bothered as I will be sorting all this shortly. Replacement wishbones are sat ready to go on, and going to be changing both handbrake cables, rear discs and pads along with stripping rear calipers and greasing sliders etc as from the state of the discs don't think calipers are working great.

Just seems odd that I'd not even recieve an advisory for these items!

Point 9 to me is just saying that the wheel is badly kerbed, I wouldn't worry about it. Point 10 is a strange one. It can't be badly buckled as they wouldn't of been able to balance it when they fitted your new tyres. I'd probably just ignore that one as well, providing it's balanced up ok.

When I got my front tyres changed in March the guy that did them showed me my front right wheel because it was buckled and cracked. It had a huge flat spot on the inside edge and in the center of the flat spot the alloy had a crack all the way through.

Since the tyre that was on there wasn't leaking air he swapped it over with the new one and still managed to balance it. I didnt get any excessive vibration when driving on it whereas I did before.
