I've got the stopover from hell (maybe the gods?) on erm, thursday, land 7am depart 11pm, time for a one day city break!

Who knows about Kuala Lumpur? What to see, where to go, whats it famous for (Petronas Towers?) and etc.

I don't think I need a visa, I do think there's an express train that'd be easy to take to the city. Are there secure lockers at the airport to leave my hand luggage in so I can travel light? Anyone done similar before?

Churs!

Depends what sort of times you are there, to be honest I found it incredibly expensive for drinks, but if you have time go to the KL Tower, you can see the Petronas Towers from there and technically its higher up due to being built on a hill, also in the mall in the petronas towers there are some really nice places to eat

The towers are worth seeing and there is a massive mall next door.

To go up in the Tower you need to be queuing by 8 am. It'll take you over an hour to get into the KL from the airport at that time in the morning via Taxi but the train takes less than 30 minutes.

Things to do - Batu Caves just outside the city - good if you like monkeys. :D Take a taxi from KL shouldn't cost more then a couple quid each way.

I think it'll be a few quid spent for just one day, but might as well make the most of it, think I'll crash for the last few hours in the airport hotel or something.

I honestly didn't do much there except spend a few days chilling out between India and China, so can't advise much about activities, but I'll echo the above - I'd go with KL Tower over the Petronas Twin Towers, much better views and you can actually see the twin towers themselves. Also, as pointed out, you need to be there very early to get tickets, I really wouldn't bother trying to rush in for them.

Also, you are correct in that you won't need a visa, just a stamp on the way in (assuming you're a UK national). Not sure about the express train, as I was in and out via the LCCT, but I'd imagine it's the way to go.

16 hours is a bit of a blip. As mentioned by Shine you'll need to be in the Petronas Towers ticket office AT LEAST an hour before it opens to queue. As it's free it gets rammed fast and if you are at the back of the queue you'll be lucky to get tickets. I'd recommend an hour and a half to two hours if you want a morning slot.

Batu Caves is brilliant but maybe a bit far out if you've only got that time. It'll take half hour or so to take the LRT out to Gombak and then a good 15 minute taxi journey and thats before you've even walked round.

Other than that, theres the malls and Tien Hou Temple is pretty nice if you're into all of that.

To go up in the Tower you need to be queuing by 8 am.

I'd second/third/whatever the KL tower instead of the Petronas towers. The view of the Petronas towers from the KL tower at night is beautiful. On top of that there are Animal Houses right at the base of it with snakes, spiders and turtles. The tower itself also has a F1 simulator in it. You can get a combined discount ticket for all three.

Just behind the Petronas Towers there is an awesome aquarium with a few touch tanks, lots of tropical fish and a big long underwater glass tunnel.

There's a big park near the centre of KL called the Lake Gardens. Apart from being a nice place for a walk there are orchid and hibiscus gardens (I've no idea when they flower though), a deer park (with Mouse Deer) and a huge aviary and a butterfly park.

Not sure if any of that is your kind of stuff but you did ask!

If you arrive at KLIA take the KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral (I think costs RM25 or so) if at LCCT , skybus to KL Sentral for RM8/9.

You can take the LRT to KLCC for the twin towers, Pasar Seni for Chinatown/Central Market to buy a few souvenirs. Try some local food - best bet would be Jalan Alor off Bukit Bintang , lots of little food stalls. KL bird park is not bad , close to Pasar Seni LRT as well or the old KL station.

Drinks are expensive compared to other countries , but with your timing you won't be around for nightlife anyway :D

Any questions I'll try to help although a bit later as I'm typing this on my phone ... !

Ironic Namesake lives there. I am sure he will join in when he gets a chance.

For something a bit out of KL you could try the Genting Highlands.

A small amusement park with a few roller coasters and other rides, casinos, videogame arcades, fantastic views usually.

You should be able to get a bus or coach up there and it is just outside KL.

The air is also nice and fresh and fairly cool as you are quite high up. Not sure about KL around that time but Singapore is currently very warm and humid.
