Hi all,

My dumb brother thinks he has bought an absoulute bargain for £70 lol, a 16MP max interpolated resoulution digital camera  . Im pretty sure "Interpolated" means zoomed in or something dodgy.

The fact that it comes only with 16MB of internal memory and is charged through USB, makes me think that it isnt really as good as it sounds.

So, is this really a quality camera or a P.O.S. with dodgy advertising? How these cameras normally compare to say, a 5MP canon ixus?

Cheers,

Digi

Holy cow better go out and sell my 5D sharpish :p

It sounds fairly pants tbh interpolated itsn't the real res. going from this (which should give you a rough idea) interpolated means nothing (as the sampling used for the interpolation will obviously dictate the quality, in marketing terms means lie as much as possible about how good it is)

Charges via USB.....well I wouldn't want that tbh replacable batteries is far better as you can keep spares about

I'd say an older IXUS will be far better

The trouble with "interpolated" megapixel camera's is that you're only capturing half of the actual 16mp. So 8mp is the actual image and the other 8 are the camera guessing what should be there so you'll be getting a fairly degraded picture quality so i'd be looking at the sensor megapixel rate rather than the total.

*edit* 8mp at best its probably even less than that.

This coupled with what i imagine will be very poor optics will leave you with nothing more than an expensive webcam quality camera.

The ixus will beat it hands down imo.

What camera is it?

Sounds like a Fuji SLR-style from 3 years ago or so. S5000 or something like that...

They are no DSLRs, but they aren't completely useless. Noisy though.

It will be terrible. Well, that's a judgement based on the fact they have used interpolation to sell it.

Interpolation is simply upsizing the resolution. This will lead to a lower quality than if you kept with the original image. Obviously, the sensor isn't 16mp but the files the camera outputs will be.

 the s5000 was advertised as a 3.1mp camera? although it could output an interpolate image of 2816x2120 (~6mp)
