well...im 18 this year but im not sure if im elegible for 16+ oyster

i have the Application form and it mentions:

you can get a 16+ Oyster photocard giving you free travel on busses and trams if:
  • you were aged 16-18 on 31 august before the start of this academic year AND
  • you are in full-time education* AND you live in a london borough

i was 18 before 31 august and before the start of the academic year
im also in full time education

does that make me qualify for it?

thanks =)

because this part really bugged me :

'aged 16-18 on 31 august'... 'before the start of this academic year'

i thought that you had to be 18 on the 31 august ....then i can qualify

I think the OP is correct to be confused. Those conditions make no sense. Every university student would qualify (as currently stated), when they should be getting a student oystercard.

First year university students should be unable to get these cards, and yet those conditions allow them to get one. It should say 16-17 before this academic year and so even if you are 18 after August 31st (i.e. turning 18 in year 13) then you are still entitled to the card.

edit:

It seems they've changed the rules since I last used them.

No, the form explains it very clearly. Level 3 education is what it counts for, Level 4 (degree) is what it does not apply to.

To get free travel on buses and trams?

Yeah but what if someone is taking night classes or something. Lol, I just don't understand why a full time student needs more help then maybe a mother who is trying to get a degree part time because she has to take care of her kids/hold a job during the day.
