Um does this sound about right/fair??

The keys apparently have to go to Peugeot in France to be coded and cut, and then the garage here charge £50 for pairing them to the ECU?

yup ford quoted me £190 for a flip remote key

my local key place was £130 for the mondeo

Nissan Qashqai Key with keyless entry system was £150 inc coding. (they originally quoted £200 but I got a quote from my mum's local Nissan dealer in deepest Norfolk for £150 which my local Nissan stealer matched)

Yup it's about right. Fiat quoted me £145 all in for a remote fob. I need it because the lock on the boot is knackered and only opens by remote now.

Yeah £160 is about right, i checked with nissan for a replacement set recently

I had this issue recently, I still had both keys but both were not working correctly, I got quoted £150 each for replacements for my X-trail, i think my exact words were "HA! no ******* chance" bid them a good day then left.
got home opened up the keys and the switches were broken.
I went straight on to ebay bought some replacement switches and housings and a cheap soldering iron and replaced the switches got a couple of new batteries, both keys good as new, cost about £25 all in.:D

Have you checked to see if there is a way to code a new key yourself?

Don't know the model/age of your Peugeot but Ford wanted £90 for a new programmed key when my Focus key bodged. Bought a blank one online for £15 and reprogrammed it myself using a "put key in ignition, turn once hold down fob button until it bings 3 times etc..." type method.

Aye been reading a lot recently that a fair few of these charges are for stuff you can do yourself, like holding buttons and turning key 3 times n stuff.

I'd read up a bit before parting with any cash

Blimey didn't realise it was quite such a racket. I'll see if I can find any info on coding it myself.

I bought myself a lexia clone for exactly this reason. £70 well spent.

Buy the blanks online, cut at a local shop, then take them home and code them yourself.

Is it a problem with the switches or similar? If so i got my key for my Astra fixed by a chap on Ebay for a tenner. It took three days from me posting it off to recieving it back. He fitted new micro switches and battery tray and it's worked ever since. Pairing usually involves a combination of button pressing with the key in the ignition.
